The ONE campaign

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]jehovahsfitness)

I've been looking into the ONE campaign recently. I took almost immediate note of the significant number of religious charities ONE is partners with. Most of them that I am familiar with I have no reason to distrust. Pat Robertson's Operation Blessing stuck out like a sore thumb, though. Also of interest is the Christian Children's Fund, which I know nearly nothing about, despite having seen their commercials all my life.

List of ONE partners )

Some of these obviously do not have any Dominionist sympathies (Oxfam, Sojo, Unicef, etc), but given that a significant number of these charities that are already known to have Dominionist sympathies (AERDO, Operation Blessing, World Vision) research into these groups is warrented.

I don't know if this book has been mentioned here before, but I just finished it this evening.
Divine Destruction: wise use, dominion theology and the making of American environmental policy by Stephenie Hendricks.
The title sums up the whole of the book very well. It's a small book, 131 pages, fast read, but it packs a LOT of information about the three bedfellows mentioned in the title.
There is an excerpt up here.

Media ignored Dick Armey's attack on Dobson and his "gang of thugs"

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]nebris)

"A Media Matters for America review of cable and broadcast networks and major newspapers showed no coverage of recent criticism by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-TX) of the "embarrassing spectacle of the Republican Party's "blatant pandering" to the Christian right and James Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family. Armey asserted that "Dobson and his gang of thugs are real nasty bullies." Armey's comments appeared in a September 23 op-ed (subscription required) in The Wall Street Journal..."
