Wikipedia entry no longer unbiased

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]helenangel)

Has anyone else visited the Wikipedia entry on Dominionism and realized that a dominionist came in and changed the article to make it appear like it's just a term used by a bunch of leftist liberal crazies?

If someone on here has a Wikipedia log-in, they should correct the article. It's about as "fair and balanced" as Fox News.

South Dakota - in the words of Warren Ellis

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]catvincent)

The recent thread about Bill Napoli & the South Dakota cause celebre - or at least the same source material - caught the eye of Warren Ellis, noted writer and creator of Transmetropolitan.

His comments here - cut for the same possible rape triggers as original post )

School Board Votes Down Evolution "Analysis"

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]britzkrieg)

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) -- The state Board of Education on Wednesday rejected a state panel's proposal to change high school standards on evolution by calling on students to "critically analyze" the theory.

Science teachers had complained that although critical analysis is part of all science, the wording was really a backdoor attempt to force educators to teach religious-based alternatives. In a 10-6 vote, board members agreed.

Creationism Group To Go Door To Door In Dover

DOVER, Pa. -- A Philadelphia-based group that promotes creationism is planning to go door to door in Dover, York County on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Michael Marcavage, the director of the conservative organization Repent America, said his group is visiting Dover because they "want to be where the enemy is diligently attacking."

Last election, Dover voters elected a school board that is against the teaching of intelligent design in biology class.

Intelligent design states that the universe is so complex it must have been designed.

Well this is interesting. I wonder how many people in Dover are going to keep the deadbolts locked when these people come by. I'd say it is rather intrusive. Though knowing people who'd do this, I shouldn't be so surprised. Privacy means nothing in Dominionism and fundamentalism.

[EDIT: I just found another article in the York Dispatch with more information here: Article Link and more information on this group in their website here.]

DK Wiki security?

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]wyldraven)

In this thread, there has been some ongoing discussion about the security of our Wiki. I am investigating options, and am inclined to implement this as part of the solution.

This will apparently place a burden on the lone admin to grant anything over read privileges on a case by case basis. I don't see any way to grant "sub-admin" privilege to other parties. Is this really worth doing now?

There is a web based utility to support more than one admin. So I should be able to assign other admins and reduce the burden.

I need a consensus today if possible, otherwise we wait until next week. My main tech on this [info]timrhodes will be unavailable tomorrow mid-day until Monday.

The Wiki is once again available for reading. It is now (by community consensus) closed to editing except for registered users. That's not as severe as it sounds. If you have posted here, chances are you will be given editing privileges. Go here to request registration. It is a manual process, but there are several admins already signed up, so service should be reasonably quick.

[info]dogemperor and [info]jehovahsfitness, since you have already been posting, as soon as you submit your registration request, it will be setup.
