We as Christians must combat global warming

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]exotic_princess)

"For most of us, until recently this has not been treated as a pressing issue or major priority," the statement said. "Indeed, many of us have required considerable convincing before becoming persuaded that climate change is a real problem and that it ought to matter to us as Christians. But now we have seen and heard enough."

The Religious Reich is at it again

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]kiji_kat)

And now, time for a game of "Name That White Supremacist."

Quote: "Europe is right now in the midst of racial suicide because of the declining birth rate."

Now, who said it? Click the link for the answer.

And also, I'd like to take the opportunity to apologize to any and all Europeans who read this journal. Trust me, that twat does not speak for me, nor does he speak for a majority of the people in this country.

Does anyone have anymore information on this?

http://www.horsesass.org/index.php?p=1370

Rev. Phelps struck a similar chord in talking about Seattle’s Super Bowl loss, saying that God chose to torment fans with momentum-turning penalties and dropped passes in retaliation for the city’s unholy abomination: “God hates Seattle! It was Seattle’s fags who hardened God’s heart, and it was God’s wrath that turned Jerramy Stevens’ hands to stone.”

I looked on their God Hates Fags website, in which they have a link to the article, but I have yet to find any sort of flyer stating that they are, in fact, going to do it.

If this is true... Phelps will say anyone is gay, won't he?

Name it & claim it candidate in MI senate

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]gairid)

I thought that his article should be posted here, since this is obviously one of those 'Name it & Claim it " guys.

Prosperity Bishop aims for US Senate

Charisma magazine is backing a pastor-candidate for the US Senate:

Ordinarily a national publication such as Charisma makes endorsements only for president and vice president-the only offices voted on by all Americans. But Charisma is endorsing Keith Butler for U.S. Senate from the state of Michigan. We urge all our readers to support his candidacy.

Young Bush Appointee resigns his post

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]sunfell)

Apparently, his past has caught up with him:

George C. Deutsch, the young presidential appointee at NASA who told public affairs workers to limit reporters' access to a top climate scientist and told a Web designer to add the word "theory" at every mention of the Big Bang, resigned yesterday, agency officials said.

Mr. Deutsch's resignation came on the same day that officials at Texas A&M University confirmed that he did not graduate from there, as his résumé on file at the agency asserted.

Officials at NASA headquarters declined to discuss the reason for the resignation.

"Under NASA policy, it is inappropriate to discuss personnel matters," said Dean Acosta, the deputy assistant administrator for public affairs and Mr. Deutsch's boss.

Has anybody seen this? Should it be viewed as any sort of hopeful sign?

And as an evangelical Christian, Anderson says, he believes global warning is also a social justice issue, because, he says, it is the poor who feel the brunt of famine or flooding that may come from climate changes.

"Climate changes in terms of famine, in terms of the inability to grow crops, in terms of the flooding of islands, most affects the poor," he says. "So we here in America probably can do many things to exempt ourselves from the immediate consequences, but the front edge of disaster is most going to affect those who have the least."

A little Bible study for this community (or, something the Dominionists overlooked???)...

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]enkinhou)

I'm just tossing out random verses, their relation being that it seems to go against the Dominionist line of thinking. However, I may be taking things out of context, and Dominionists may have ways of maintaining their position (although, they may sound absurd in the process (well, like that's anything new or shocking)).

Non-Christians may see some of these verses and thus be turned off by Christianity even more, but the purpose is not to convert anyone to Christianity. Rather, the purpose of this is to show that Dominionist Christianity is guilty of misinterpreting the text - which even they should recognize as an egregious sin to Christianity (Bible-idolatry and Bible-mistranslation issues aside, of course).

Let us begin (I'm using the New International Version):

Phillipians, Chapter 2, verses 1-4 )

Phillipians, Chapter 4, verses 4, 5, 8, and 9 )

Colossians, Chapter 2, verses 20-23 )

Colossians, Chapter 3, verses 8-17 )

1 Thessalonians, Chapter 4, verses 11-12 )

* Personal Note: Most of 1 Timothy is almost purely Dominionist fodder (as in I can't seem to interpret them any other way by itself, while the rest of the Bible seems open to myriad interpretations) and is prone to dogmatism in general. Non-Dominionist Christians: be forewarned, and be prepared...

1 Timothy, Chapter 4, verses 1-5 )

Titus, Chapter 1, verses 10-16 )
