Forgive me if this is off-topic, but I felt I had to post this...

(cross-posted to my personal journal ([info]enkinhou))

I do this a lot on my personal journal, but I thought it would be fitting in this community, so I'm going to post it here. If the moderators think the material here is inappropriate to this community, then they have my permission to delete this post. I promise not to put up a fight about this, since I trust your wisdom in what goes into this community and what does not.

I know this is going to be very dramatic and very polemical, so I ask you all to be patient and charitable concerning this tract. I believe there is content to which everyone in this community should take heed in some degree or another, but I will openly admit that my beliefs may be wrong. If I am wrong, then I trust the moderators of this community to do what is appropriate.

This is going to be a rant and a rally cry... )

Sad and Crazy Moms

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]thornewilder)

Someone mentioned to me yesterday that the tragic stories of Susan Smith and Andrea Yates intersect the world of dominionist religion. Is this true?

Are there any attempts to chart frequencies of this type of behavior in relation to beliefs? I don't just mean any one belief system, I think it would be interesting to look at all beliefs and chart child abuse frequencies....heck atheism too. Let's not leave anybody out...

Today's Fresh Air

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]sunfell)

Today's Fresh Air with Terry Gross is going to feature President Jimmy Carter, who is a born-again Mainstream Baptist (see sidebar for link to their site). According to the blurb I heard this morning, he's going to lay into the overweening evangelical takeover of the government.

That ought to be a treat!

UPDATE- the show is now available to listen to. Carter goes into detail about the takeover in 2000 of the Southern Baptist Convention and the very negative changes that the fundementalist/dominionist people imposed on this faith. He talks about a very restrictive creed that was imposed upon the previously creedless Baptist church, and why he left.

It's very interesting.

Another Dominionist player

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]sunfell)

This Law.com article takes a look at Jay Sekulow, one of the Religious Right's major players. It's a fascinating tangle of high finance, tangled alliances, and God-talk.
