16 February, day 1 of the year of the rat Martin's Chinese New Year Party
It should be noted that Martin has never hosted his own CNY celebration before. Even though he cares about his culture and misses home, he's very casual about this party. He put it together mostly because people showed interest. He and Luna had a lot of fun with it but he's not particularly bothered if attendance is low or people mess up traditions or whatever.
Decorations: the party is at HQ and looks very... DIY. Red paper garlands hang over the doors and windows. A dozen news-print lanterns painted with red and yellow stars can be seen bobbing along in the air just above head height in the dining room. Taller guests might bump into them, but they float off as easily as balloons and aren't hot (they're lit by little vials of liquid light, so no fire involved). He probably got tips from the twins to set off small harmless fireworks inside at midnight for those still around. There are absolutely no likenesses of rats on display because Pettigrew is gross, but there are red signs with yellow letters with Mandarin couplets about wealth, luck, and longevity.
Menu: the spread is borderline excessive because it's the part Martin has the easiest time with. Having used some connections (Tonks?) he attained and cooked brisket, pork knuckle and a small amount of pork-belly. There are several flavours of dumplings as well as rice and congee available. Sweets and oranges are scattered about for snacking and there are a variety of beverages available, both alcoholic and not. The wine selection isn't very thematic and obviously came from Luna's stash, meaning there are mostly mid-range bottles of dry red wines and a few cheap bag-in-box whites (Lorcan's).
Traditions: guests are encouraged but not required to take off shoes at the door; drink bottoms-up if someone toasts (any beverage); lighting incense for the kitchen deity at a little slap-dash altar, which also holds small bowls of water, tea, uncooked rice, and oranges with a sign that says "DO NOT EAT ME"; passing on kind words or money in provided red envelopes; and getting group portraits taken (by Luna) in the sitting room.
Happenings: if you have anything you want your character to do at the party you can write a comment but no pressure.
