Is it just me or is this place an emotional sinkhole?

No way, not just you.

These people should make bitching an Olympic sport.

But seeing as we don't know where we are, where would they compete for?

I fail to understand why you would shame one for having emotions. They are not bad and ought be expressed freely and without reservation, and without judgment of those who do not understand the reason behind said emotion.

I am never ashamed to laugh, weep or feel joy. 'Whiners' Men call each other, too sensitive, they say. To feel is the 'womanly' thing to do. Nay, to feel is to live.

Why is it a bad thing?

Again I never said whiners...and I feel plenty, maybe that's the problem with this place

To have feelings is 'womanly'?

Is that supposed to be a bad thing?

Nay! Why would it be? We all feel.

And expressing it is only to be honest with ourselves.

Most certainly. I would not want any child of mine to believe that feelings are something to be embarrassed about.

I was the one who called people 'whiners'. I've done my share don't get me wrong, but constantly talking about your problems (and I don't mean you specifically) on an open forum isn't going to help anyone.

If a person can do something to fix what's bothering them then they should do so. If not then what cannot be cured must be endured.

[info]turukano

It helps the person talking about them, I imagine, to speak of their issues. How will we ever know they are experiencing an issue if they are being shamed into silence instead of speaking?

While it is not our responsibility to make life okay for everyone or to reason out their anxieties, it should be our responsibility to let them speak in safe places where we will not judge them.

Maybe that works for you elves, but in my experience people always judge each other whether they openly admit it or not.

Is it too much to ask for decency? I am not saying you cannot formulate an opinion. I think my brother an idiot, and many of his complaints childish. But I would never tell him not to express them.

I am saying it is wrong to think emotional responses are wrong. If a thing bothers you and makes you feel in a particular way then you need not be ashamed.

And calling individuals whiners, or foolish for feeling, or anything other than a living, breathing being that can feel, is wrong.

You think someone stupid for complaining about the length of their tea towels, by all means, think them stupid! Only let them have space to speak of their complaints rather than telling them it is unimportant. Aye, it is not particularly life threatening, but you do not know their experiences.

Let them feel.

I'm not saying to never express them, there's a time and a place. I'm not even saying most of the people here are whiners, but you stay here long enough and you get to see a pattern.

Maybe it tends to grate after a time.

Aye! It does, and you are just as entitled to feel annoyed, or slighted, or bothered by others as they are.

How long have you been here?

I should think six months a breeze after four centuries. We have long lives ahead of us, and time flows differently. But aye, our experiences with it are different too.

Five centuries, and normally you'd be right.

I'm not going to add to the angst, it is what it is. Until we find a way off this rock we just have to suck it up and deal with it.
