STATUS: Complete.
Reaper ran until he felt his lungs were going to explode and that was when he finally stopped to take a look at his surroundings. Despite the trees he saw at the Cornucopia, this definitely wasn’t a nature arena, which was a thought that filled him with sudden dread. So much for having some useful skills such as identifying edible berries or how to survive extreme weather conditions. Inwardly, he cursed at the chosen arena, but outwardly his face remained neutral for the potential sponsors he hoped were watching. No one would want to help a tribute who didn’t look confident. How he was going to deal with this situation was something he had long to ponder as he heard some heavy footsteps coming from his right side. Clutching the knife in his hand, Reaper dove behind a nearby bench and wait to see which tribute was coming upon him. When he saw the blonde hair, he felt relieved. “Patsy,” he whispered loudly as he peeked over the bench. “Patsy! It’s me!” Patsy had also ran and ran and then ran some more just for good measure. As she ran, she noticed how odd the arena was and it made her feel a little uneasy. Besides, she didn’t want to get too far away. Once she felt she’d gotten far enough from the Cornucopia, she stopped to catch her breath and gain her bearings. Then she walked a bit, exploring the arena a little, but she wasn’t enjoying what she was seeing. Patsy had never been to a fair before, but it was obviously a place designed for lots of people to have fun and the fact that it was run down and devoid of said people having fun just rubbed her the wrong way. Still, her face remained mostly expressionless except a few sighs and grumbles. Maybe she should have stayed for the bloodbath and just gotten dying out of the way quickly. But no, she hadn’t wanted to give a career the satisfaction of killing her. She knew she’d made the right choice. Patsy was lost in these thoughts when suddenly she realized she wasn’t alone anymore. As soon as she was about to start running, she heard Reaper’s voice and the momentary tenseness in her face relaxed to an expression of relief. “Reaper!” she exclaimed and headed to the bench he was hiding behind. Was that blood on his face? “Are you okay?” Blinking a few times more than usual, Reaper stared at his district mate for a few seconds as he tried to process what she was asking. His mind felt sluggish. This was why it took him more time than usual to realize Patsy was referring to the cut on his head. “Oh. The thing on my head. I got hit with something in the Cornucopia,” he answered as he raised his hand to briefly poke at the wound. “I’m okay though. Were you hurt?” “Oh no!” Patsy said and took a closer look. “Don’t touch it! Did you wash it out?” She hadn’t recalled seeing any water, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t any. She wanted to fuss over him a little, but he seemed okay otherwise. “No, I was right by the mouth of the cornucopia so I just grabbed a couple things and ran the other way. Did you manage to get anything?” “No. I haven’t. Don’t really have anything to wash it out or treat it with right now.” Reaper shrugged a bit since there wasn’t much either of them could do now. “Well. I have a canteen with some water, but I don’t want to use it on something like that. We’ll need it later. I got a small knife too.” “All right,” Patsy said, assumptions confirmed. “Okay. Water’s good. For drinking only. Ooh a knife? That’ll be useful” Patsy’s face definitely lit up when Reaper mentioned the knife. “I only got some jerky, but food is good too, I guess. Haven’t seen much in the way of edible things so far.” He smiled slightly at her mention of food. “So we got some water, some food, and a sharp object. Guess that’s not a bad start, right?” And maybe, just maybe, they could find more things in the arena. If they were really lucky, some Capitolite would take enough interest in them to sponsor them some gifts. “I suppose we should find Zap and Maxima then?” Patsy matched his smile. “Yeah those are pretty much the basics. Not too bad at all.” She was started to feel slightly better about things although her new worry about Reaper’s wound was replacing her worry about the arena. She nodded. “Okay, let’s find them. And hopefully no one else.” “One more thing though,” he continued as he took a step forward. “If it comes down between helping them or helping us, we choose us. Always. And we can’t be afraid to take them out when the time comes.” “Yeah,” Patsy said with a firm nod and took a step as well. “I completely agree.” She wasn’t even going to think about what if it came to her and him, though. |
