Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:canton everett delaware iii, river song

WHO: Canton Everett Delaware III & River Song Mels
WHAT: Mels threatened his friends. Canton isn't about to stand for that.
WHEN: April 29th; Afternoon
WHERE: Colligo streets
RATING: PG-13
STATUS: In Progress

A challenge had been issued, and it had been one that Canton had taken seriously. The idea that someone, anyone, would hurt the Doctor, Amy, Rory, or anyone that might be associated with the Doctor simply because they could didn't sit well with Canton both as someone with a law enforcement mindset and as a friend to many of those individuals. So Canton had done the most logical thing that he could think to do at the time. He had started trying to track down this individual and make sure that she didn't do anything to harm anyone. At first, it hadn't been too difficult to follow her trail. She certainly didn't have any trouble with making a spectacle of herself in public, and that had given him a sufficient amount of leads.

But now that he found himself out in the open, having tracked the last bit of intel that he'd managed to gather to an area that left him well at a disadvantage, filled with plenty of different places to stake an ambush or just duck back into until he was in a prime position to disorient and disarm, Canton wasn't so sure that coming here alone had been the most solid judgement call on his part.

Gun leveled in front of him, Canton washed his gaze back and forth over the street in front of him, holding his breath as he listened for any signs of suspicious activity. But other than the odd homeless local propped up against the wall, trying to sleep to block out the reality of another day, there wasn't anything which stood out to him. Maybe the information he'd been given had been wrong. Or maybe she was just waiting until he let his guard down. Either one was possible.

The very first thought that had gone through Melody's mind upon regenerating into her new form was that she was going to kill John Druitt. Well. Actually, the first thought that had gone through her mind was that she needed to find a mirror to examine her new form. Then, after several minutes of preening, she'd decided to kill Druitt. Fortunately for him, that thought had been almost immediately cut short by the sound of police entering the bar where her death - as well as the deaths of quite a fair number of others - had taken place.

Immediately putting her acting skills to good use, she had pretended to be just another patron who was lucky to be alive. The fact that her clothes were blood-soaked yet she didn't have a single scratch on her certainly helped in that regard. And, as much of a pain as it was to have to speak to officer after officer to give her statement, much less give up her clothing as part of the investigation, it was all worthwhile when a scant few hours after getting her new form she was allowed to walk right out of the police precinct without so much as a suspicious look from anyone present.

Of course, by the time she had been released, Druitt was nowhere to be found. Oh, sure, she could have tracked him down if she'd really wanted. It wasn't as though the man was terribly subtle. However, before she could decide whether to do such a thing or whether to use this new form to her advantage and finally go after the Doctor, Melody became aware of someone else with the possibility of being a thorn in her side.

Canton seemed, for all intents and purposes, like nothing more than a man who had befriended both her parents as well as the Doctor. Typically, Melody wouldn't consider him worth her time at all but there was something about him that stuck out. Something that told her that he not only was a real threat to her but that, unlike a fair majority of the Doctor's other companions, wouldn't think twice about shooting her. Hell, he might even be willing to shoot her mid-regeneration, even.

And Melody simply couldn't stand for that.

So rather than go after Druitt or the Doctor, she'd decided to deal with him first. Planting misinformation and leads of her own creation about the city was relatively simple, in retrospect, but she knew the reward would be worth it. A fact that was proven true the moment he stepped into view in the little trap she'd laid for him. Her fingers danced lightly across the gun holstered at her side but she didn't draw it, instead deciding she was going to have a bit of fun first.

With that thought in mind, and no small amount of insanity causing her to disregard the very real risk she was taking if he'd figured out that she was the very same Mels he'd spoken with earlier, she stepped out from the darkened corner of the alley and directly into his line of sight. "Well," she drawled, an eyebrow arching ever so slightly. "Fancy seeing you here."

Canton had been on guard, highly aware of any movements around him, so the second that Mels had started to step out of her hiding place, Canton's gun had been trained in her, the tension and readiness filtering into every part of his body as his finger poised on the trigger. But the time that her words filtered through the air, Canton's entire body language had changed. His grasp on the gun had relaxed, his postured slackened, and his expression slowly shifted from determined wariness to vaguely amused surprise, "I would say the same to you," He said, gun still raised but pointing slightly at the ground as he stepped towards River.

He wasn't really sure what she was doing in this part of the city, but Canton had figured out during his first encounter with all of them that questioning Dr. Song's actions and motivations was really just a good way to get himself wrapped up a set of logic that he couldn't understand. She might do something that struck him as utterly insane in the moment, but it would make sense eventually. So whatever reason she had for being in this part of the city, he was certain that it was a good one.

"Occupying yourself by hunting dangerous criminals as well?" Canton asked, a hint of teasing in his voice as he stepped forward again, his gun shifting down to his side with her offered her a quirk of a smile.

Curious. Clearly, Canton knew someone who looked like she did. That was the only thing that made any sense to Melody, considering she knew she would never go about hunting dangerous criminals. Except, perhaps, dear Jack, but that was a solely personal matter and neither here nor there at the moment.

Still. There was an air of familiarity and even fondness that the man before her was showing around her and, even though Melody knew it wasn't actually meant for her, she was hardly going to let that stop her from using it to her advantage.

Moving closer to him, smile still in place, Melody murmured, "Something along those lines. Never was one for sitting still for long. Terribly boring, that."

"That much has always been obvious, Dr. Song," Canton said, a hint of amusement in his voice as he cast another wide gaze about the place. They couldn't be the only ones about this place. Canton was positive that this was where his information had ultimately lead, so unless someone was jerking him around, she had to be here somewhere. "Happen to spot anyone around while you were prowling?" He asked. "About yea high, mouthy, looks like she in training to be a Hell's Angel?"

Were there any assurances that she wasn't around, Canton would have holstered his weapon, but without that, his gun hung limply at his side as he turned his attention fully towards River. Of course, there had been some implications when he'd talked to Mels from others that she was River. While not entirely certain how that worked, with the way that this place was changing constantly, it was all too possible that he had actually tracked her down, but she'd turned back into herself by now. Whatever version it might be.

"Or will we not have to worry anymore?" Canton asked, studying River for a long moment before feeling that those assurances were probably firmly in place. Holstering his gun, Canton extended a hand to her. "Shall we go and find someone else to deal with?"
