The very first thought that had gone through Melody's mind upon regenerating into her new form was that she was going to kill John Druitt. Well. Actually, the first thought that had gone through her mind was that she needed to find a mirror to examine her new form. Then, after several minutes of preening, she'd decided to kill Druitt. Fortunately for him, that thought had been almost immediately cut short by the sound of police entering the bar where her death - as well as the deaths of quite a fair number of others - had taken place.
Immediately putting her acting skills to good use, she had pretended to be just another patron who was lucky to be alive. The fact that her clothes were blood-soaked yet she didn't have a single scratch on her certainly helped in that regard. And, as much of a pain as it was to have to speak to officer after officer to give her statement, much less give up her clothing as part of the investigation, it was all worthwhile when a scant few hours after getting her new form she was allowed to walk right out of the police precinct without so much as a suspicious look from anyone present.
Of course, by the time she had been released, Druitt was nowhere to be found. Oh, sure, she could have tracked him down if she'd really wanted. It wasn't as though the man was terribly subtle. However, before she could decide whether to do such a thing or whether to use this new form to her advantage and finally go after the Doctor, Melody became aware of someone else with the possibility of being a thorn in her side.
Canton seemed, for all intents and purposes, like nothing more than a man who had befriended both her parents as well as the Doctor. Typically, Melody wouldn't consider him worth her time at all but there was something about him that stuck out. Something that told her that he not only was a real threat to her but that, unlike a fair majority of the Doctor's other companions, wouldn't think twice about shooting her. Hell, he might even be willing to shoot her mid-regeneration, even.
And Melody simply couldn't stand for that.
So rather than go after Druitt or the Doctor, she'd decided to deal with him first. Planting misinformation and leads of her own creation about the city was relatively simple, in retrospect, but she knew the reward would be worth it. A fact that was proven true the moment he stepped into view in the little trap she'd laid for him. Her fingers danced lightly across the gun holstered at her side but she didn't draw it, instead deciding she was going to have a bit of fun first.
With that thought in mind, and no small amount of insanity causing her to disregard the very real risk she was taking if he'd figured out that she was the very same Mels he'd spoken with earlier, she stepped out from the darkened corner of the alley and directly into his line of sight. "Well," she drawled, an eyebrow arching ever so slightly. "Fancy seeing you here."
