.:Some Business:.
First of all, this is important for all of the players that have been with us since we were on GreatestJournal: According to GJ's main page, the servers are being shut down for good on January 30th! If you want to save any of your characters' journal entries or comment threads, you have about two weeks to do so. I haven't been able to get ljArchive to work, but if anyone's able to get anything else to work let us know. I'll be backing up all of the old logs to oldschool_cw, so you guys don't have to worry about that.
Also, if anyone's still in touch with former players from that time, please let them know; we'd hate for anyone to lose all of their old journals and not know about it until it was too late.
Second of all, it's about time for a curse, don't you think?
The Wild West Curse!
For those of you that remember the Pleasantville Curse, this has a similar idea to it (but it's not gonna last as long, don't worry |D). This one's going to start Saturday night at midnight CST and will go to midnight CST Thursday night.
Basically what's going to happen is that the entirety of the building property will be turned into a stereotypical oldwest town. That's right, dirt roads, wooden plank sidewalks, wooden buildings, horses, stage coaches, cowboys, indians, saloons, bandits, and even a sheriff! And when we say "stereotypical"? We mean stereotypical. All those old Spaghetti Westerns? Back to the Future III? The one episode of Quantum Leap? That one Rocko's Modern Life short? Yeah, that's what we're talking about.
Of course the curse will, as always, be optional, but with a little twist: Participating characters will believe they're Olde West Folk (bartenders, saloon girls, ranchers, bandits, shopkeepers, teachers, indians, tailors, cobblers, carpenters, blacksmiths, gunsmiths, innkeepers, doctors, veterinarians, miners, Texas Rangers, wandering cowboys, etc -- get creative!). Non-participating characters will keep their memories and everything, but they'll still have to live in this little old west town.
For the folks that are going all the way but might need a little help in the How To Speak Cowboy department, apparently there's no handy little Cowboy Translator ANYWHERE on the ENTIRE INTERNET, here'sa fewhandylinks.
As for the layout, use this map as a basic idea. There's the one main road that runs through the middle of town and most of the buildings are along that road; the "downtown area" (the area with the saloon/inn/general store/jail/town hall/other businesses and public buildings) is dead center with the majority of the houses scattered along either end; the houses further from the main street are mostly people that need the extra land (ranchers, etc). Keep in mind that business owners are most likely to live in the same building that they work in.
Now here's why this is getting posted so early, besides giving y'all a chance to figure stuff out: Every wild west town needs a sheriff and a deputy! So here's your chance! Comment here if you want to put your character(s) up for sheriff OR deputy (NONE OF THIS "IT DOESN'T MATTER" BUSINESS, PICK ONE OR THE OTHER 8|). I'll gather up all the names and roll to see who gets each spot and announce it when the curse announcement post goes up. Keep in mind that there will only be one sheriff and one deputy (hence why we're choosing this way instead of just leaving it to y'all), they won't be played by the same person, and most importantly: Your character doesn't have to be participating in the curse to be made one or the other!
Aside from sheriff and deputy nominations, feel free to comment here with questions or use this post to plot with other players! You can't have an attacking indian tribe with only one tribesman, or a band of thieves with only one thief, after all!
