Ghost Dad has seen it all ([info]firstdeadman) wrote in [info]cirque_rp,

Who: Papa Ghede & Halle
What: You're all too goddamn loud
When: October 31st, very early
Where: The Puppet Show
Warnings: TBD

The closer it drew to Halloween, the more Ghede noticed an uptick in spirit activity. They were much more active and talkative, particularly the malicious ones. Ghede had been holding them back the best he could, but Halle had been right. The Veil between worlds was almost non-existent right now, and tonight it would almost be as if there was none at all.

He wound through the dark, familiar paths of the Cirque, heading towards the Puppet Show. The cloud of spirits that followed him was almost invisible to everyone else, and all they would see was an old man, glaring at the space around him and occasionally spitting out words. Ghede usually prided himself on his composure, but it was slipping right now. He needed the boost that Halle could give him, together they could try and fix this mess.

The change in energy around the Puppet Show was pronounced; Halle could feel the fluctuations even as she waited outside. Usually, Ghede kept that sort of thing under control. She was not used to seeing him so affected; clearly he needed her help, if things had gone so far. After another moment of waiting for her Phoenix boyfriend to arrive, Halle wrinkled her nose and turned her attention back to the entrance.

Without her reaching for it, the door swung open and then silently shut behind her. Orion knew where she was. He would be there shortly, she was sure. In the meantime, she didn't like the idea of Ghede all alone and waiting for her.

It took a few moments for her to make her way to the stage area, where the marionettes hung familiarly. Halle could sense all the spirits present and could see most of them; they weren't as solid as living things, but she could see them all the same. And hear them – some of them were in agony, shrieking in confusion and terror at the thinned Veil and the proximity of the mortal world. Others were hungry and dark, waiting to cross over and wreak havoc.

"Whoa," Halle commented, weaving through the marionettes, her eyes turned up to watch the swirl of spirits surrounding them. "I totally see what you mean..."

Ghede felt Halle's presence before he saw her, felt the more pronounced ripples through the spirits around him. "You mind what I said, now," he growled at the cloud. "Or y'all can end up just like your friends there." He gestured to where three or four spirits were still swirling around the room.

"You see," Ghede sighed. "They're out to wreak havoc, and it's like...like overloading a power grid. Eventually the whole thing shuts down, and without it, there's widespread disorder. I need-"

"You need to accept that your time has passed."

Ghede snorted. "In your intangible dreams," he replied. "You need to stop scaring the little ones that just want to be left alone."

"Weak, useless things. Wisps of a dream, left hanging around through sheer luck."

"What, and you applied for the job?" Ghede asked derisively.

Halle watched the exchange, hearing most of it, seeing a bit less. Nonetheless, it created a little line of worry between her brows, turned down the corners of her mouth. It was concerning that the spirits were so out of control, that Ghede himself felt sort of... wired.

The closeness of the worlds was clearly fucking with everything; for the first time, Halle found herself wishing to see the Veil more intact. Before she came to the Cirque, she might have foolishly searched for her parents on the other side... but she had felt them go, and she knew that they were beyond her reach. They had crossed on to the next life. It was ironic that she was still earthbound.

"Whatever you need, I'm here to help. I think I can push them back, I did before. But... with the Veil so thin, I don't know how much good that would do?"
