Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Catherine & Kennet
Where: Kennet's trailer
When June 2st, Morning
What: Being called to the Principal's office.
Warnings: Tbd

As much as she had been hoping to just spend the rest of her week with Callum, Catherine could not say she was surprised when there was a message from the Ringmaster for her. She had made very certain to wake Callum and tell him where she was going and that she didn't know why. But unfortunately, there was no telling Kennet to fuck off while she spent time with her wounded boyfriend. She had attempted to brush her hair and make herself presentable but she hadn't even had a chance to eat yet - she wasn't exactly a morning person.

Either way, she headed out in a timely fashion with her arms crossed tightly in front of her like a shield. What could he possibly want from her? She'd done her job. She'd found the others. Her nerves were on edge, making her more anxious than she wanted to admit. Her heart was pounding in a way she didn't like. When she reached his trailer, she took in a deep breath and then knocked before recrossing her arms. As much as she knew, she couldn't even begin to imagine why he wanted to talk to her. She hadn't done anything wrong outside of their previous argument and that had ended in a warning. She had done nothing to require further conversation. So what the Hell did he want?

The Ringmaster's long frame filled the doorway as he opened the trailer. Simple dusty red and yellow fabrics ran over his form in his typical style of slacks and a button-down shirt. Suspenders hung down from his hips, completely unnecessary in their function. As if nothing had changed between one day to the next, his face remained lacking emotion. "Come in." He left the door open and went to his bar to pick up his glass of amber liquid.

Even without a glance given to the booth commonly used to discuss issues or the rules on various levels, the smell of various favourite breakfast foods of Catherine's sat stacked on a display cart for her choosing. "I thought we might have breakfast together and discuss a few things," he offered in explanation.

Her jaw tensed as the door opened but otherwise, she kept her expression neutral. She stepped inside of his trailer, securing the door shut behind her but immediately after, her arms crossed in front of her again. As if she could actually protect herself if Kennet was feeling ill towards her. Although the food smelt heavenly, she was so nervous all she could offer at first was a quiet, "I'm not particularly hungry."

Still, she settled into one of the seats understanding that it was where she was meant to be. "Have I done something wrong? Again?" The warning was still there but she was certain she'd been well-behaved since then. She'd done everything that she was supposed to do. When it came to the issues with Issac, she had done her best to contact the right people short of showing up at Kennet's trailer and banging on the door.

Kennet could feel the anxiousness pouring off of her as if he would rip out her soul. The previous nights had been long and stressful on everyone involved. Her refusal of food did not phase the Djinn, figuring that sitting beside it would force her to eat.

"Not at all, Ms Doughtery."

Moving from the bar, Kennet sat done in the booth- which would not have crossed most anyone's mind as an occurrence that ever happened. Taking a moment of thought, he looked up at her with his head tilted to the side. "I wanted to express my appreciation for what you accomplished in finding the missing employees. I am aware of your feeling of being nothing compared to many here and that you had a desire to be bitten by your mate."

Knowing desires and secrets could be said to be the Djinn's greatest trick that he hid from the employees. Each of his kind had specialized abilities, not that many of his kind existed any longer.

Catherine watched Kennet like prey trapped with a predator that she was never sure would snap or not. But there was a hint of relaxation when he assured her that she wasn't in trouble with him. Good. That was good. The tension didn't totally drain though.

Her eyes narrowed slightly as he continued. He couldn't have said that over the journals? She supposed on some level that she appreciated the face-to-face but on another level, it was... unnecessary. "It was in consideration but not being able to retain the Sight at the same time, the option has been decided against," she told him simply. The Sight had been far too useful lately to be rid of it entirely.

"We have decided that I should move into his trailer," she didn't tell him why because he likely didn't give two shits. "I figured there wouldn't be a problem with that," she paused for a moment, "This is a conversation that could have been held over the journals." The unspoken question lingered in the air: why was she really there?

He really could not invite people into his trailer without suspicion of punishment. That was the consequence of using his trailer as his office as well. Truly if he had not meant to show a relaxed state he would have rolled his eyes at her narrowed eyes and pointed conversation.

"I am glad you came to such a decision. I believe you to be an asset as a Seer and do not wish for any of the gifted humans to lose so much of themselves in rash decisions." Kennet picked up a roll from the tray of food and started to butter it. The Djinn did not need to eat as humans did, nor drink, yet he made a show of it. There were many things he did because he had spent centuries blending into human crowds before taking his space as worshipped gods.

"That is fine, we will get rid of your trailer then and replace it with a new one for incoming employees." He paused after her comment and sighed- a typical sound of annoyance coming from him that nearly everyone at the Cirque had heard at one time or another.

"I understand that, Ms Doughtery. I was trying to show appreciation through the offering of food. If you wish to not eat, or discuss things, you are free to go." Forgetting the roll, he stood up and grabbed his drink from the bar. Disappointment in this manner never hit Kennet like a human would. He had tried to soften as he knew she had been through a great deal of stress over the last several stops. He was trying to show humanity, but that had never really been his strong suit- that had been something his partner had been better at.

She almost started to argue that she never made rash decisions... But then snorted slightly and ducked her head, shaking it slightly with vague amusement at herself. There was never a time that had been true. To say otherwise would have been a terrible lie. She watched him butter the roll almost curiously. Did he actually have to eat? She'd never even considered it. Probably not. So why play pretend with her?

Catherine nodded at his statement, "I assume I'll have to move my things myself." Such a frivolous use of magic otherwise and honestly, she'd like the work. It was simple, easy and straightforward.

She pressed her lips together, almost ashamed that she'd rebuked the gesture now. But there was one thing she did need to ask him. Catherine slid from the booth and settled against the bar next to him, keeping her gaze on his. "Actually... I was wondering - with the borrowed power. What happens? Side effects or time it takes to fade or anything like that?" Would he always be in her head, more than he was already naturally?

As the trailers had already been in use, her moving her own things would be far more useful than using magic to do it- not that it couldn't be done, just it was unnecessary while they were still in Rome. Kennet did not answer the comment as it had obviously not been a question.

A flat expression on his face, he took a sip of his drink- the burnt red liquid smelled strongly of minerals, pine, and an uncertain dull sweet scent. He had no issue looking her in the eyes, no care or discomfort many felt under his own gaze. "It will fade by tomorrow. The only side effect is one you will not notice, so you need not worry about it."

Kennet ran his finger over his lip in thought before returning to his drink.

Catherine wondered what the drink was - likely not something fit for mortal consumption from the smell of it, but that didn't stop her from sparing it a glance. She kept her expression careful, suddenly finding herself not nearly as fearful as she had been. He had earnestly been trying, it seemed, and that was... Strange. "You realize you can't say things like that to me and not expect me to ask, yeah? I have this deep desire to know more than my fair share. So I'd like to know - just for a bit of peace of mind. I don't get that much lately." She figured at the most, she would get a scoff and a dismissal but she couldn't stop herself from asking.

When her eyes moved to the glass, Kennet instinctively switched hands to move the glass away from her. The liquid would kill a human instantly and while he sought it to relax him, he knew that many humans would be too curious for their own good- mostly the witches, who he had no doubt would take the drink behind his back to experiment on it.

Kennet rolled his eyes and gave her what she expected, a deep scoff. "It does not matter, Ms Doughtery, as you will be fine by tomorrow. Just be glad that I did not let you go blind." Her seizure could have had a fairly bad outcome with as much power as he had allowed her to have.

She gave him a Look when he moved the glass. What did he think she was? A stupid child? She wasn't even planning on asking about it let alone snatching the glass from his hand or dipping a finger in. That would've been damned foolish when she didn't even know what it was.

"It matters to me," she frowned momentarily but after a pause, "Thank you, though, for keeping me bodily safe." There was a hint of fear there from what could have happened. Going blind was a Seer's nightmare. Actually having real vision filtered the constant stream because she had to process two sets of vision at once. Without her normal sight, it would be nothing but the visions. Horrifying.

She stepped away from him to the spread of food and simply began collecting the bacon. That could be shared with Callum. "I haven't told anyone," she said suddenly, "About the sharing of power. I'm sure Elia knows but I wouldn't want anyone else to expect it. Not even Callum knows."

Kennet nodded to the gratitude. The depths of the nature of a Seer swirled and swarmed with things human did not have the capacity to handle, yet some who the gift found its way into their lives every now and then. There were many things to be blamed on Djinn, many things no longer remembered. Such gifts appeared in secret without a sound to alert outside forces until it blossomed and tore the humans apart. If not the Djinn than those that had been served.

A sip of the red liquid left a trail of burning warmth through his system and a sigh on his lips. His brows raised in question. "You are a woman of many secrets, but there is no need to keep such a thing hidden. I doubt it matters much and few would have the courage to ask. I did not give it because you wanted it, I let you have a very little taste to get a job done and our employees returned." A slight smile pulled briefly on his lips. "Had I shared entirely you would not have needed to be afraid of blindness as you would have turned to ash."

Taking a step to the side, he pulled out a basket from a cabinet that never appeared to be able to open previous. "Here, take what will."

"I know... I could feel the burning," and it had hurt. Even that little bit had hurt. "Idiots like Gavin would ask," she stated bluntly, snorting slightly though she knew that was a request that would be ignored, "And don't you think you get pestered enough?" Not telling Callum served its own purpose. Kennet had scared Callum deep down and to think that Catherine had been so connected to their Ringmaster? No, that would never do.

"Thank you," she said again, manners mattering and all that, though she unabashedly started to fill the basket, "Will there be a need to return the basket?" She doubted it had even existed before Kennet pulled it from the cabinet but again, manners mattered.

"Gavin may ask all he wants but I have found over the time he has been here that it is best to ignore him when he is being childish." Which was every moment of the day. As long as he did not find himself breaking rules the Ringmaster set then it was best to overtly ignore his presence and any comments he made in regards to anything. "Them knowing or not knowing does not stop them from pestering," he offered back a smile in his tone.

With a sip of his drink, Kennet shook his head. "No, feel free to keep it. If you wish not to then it will return itself." The words spoken with a nonchalance as though items returning themselves happened everyday- though it could be said that at the Cirque such things might be an everyday occurrence.

"I would offer some wine to go with the breakfast but then Callum might not need such things in the morning."

Catherine bit her lip but grinned at the same time at that tone. "That comes with the territory of being the boss," she mock-pouted as if she felt bad for him but then ducked her head, laughing softly. She wasn't sure when she had let her guard down but it had happened and she finally was feeling a little more relaxed.

She nodded her head to him, not at all surprised that a basket would simply go back to where it came from around here, but added, "We're whisky drinkers anyway. Wine rarely enters into it." A brief pause. "I'll stop pestering you now. Thank you again," she stated, starting towards his door to take her leave.

"Thank you for helping," Kennet mentioned as he moved to open the door for her. The Ringmaster did not thank people nor did he apologize to people, but having seen her secret desire to be more than a gifted human, he felt the need to show her how much her skills were appreciated. Humans would always be weak creatures unable to handle gifts given to them, but that did not mean they needed to change into other creatures. Kennet knew Catherine would not do well as a werewolf, her boyfriend could barely handle it.
