Parent-child parking spots.

Why was I completely unaware that these existed until about two days ago? I had heard them being debated in the past but had yet to realise they actually were around.

I can understand, which doesn't necessarily mean I agree with them, to an extent how some women may struggle with those monstrously huge prams they love buying so much but it kind of irked me that I saw women getting out without prams but just with toddlers. Toddlers have nice healthy legs and it doesn't seem like anything really tires them out so I really really don't understand the point of them at all.

What also bothers me is that at some point when these things were being debated, someone, somewhere, *must've* made a comparison between these and disabled parking spots. You know they only difference being that one is needed and the other one feels like it may have been created just to satisfy shrieking harpy women.

Am I overreacting to this or do other people see these parking spots as being an incredibly stupid idea?

Mod Post

There is a new community for sharing information in our efforts to keep abortion legal, and supporting a woman's right to choice:

[info]prochoice

However, because I am aware that not all childfree people are prochoice, I would be remiss if I did not also inform you of the existence of [info]prolife.

Maybe one less kid would have been better

I ride the bus/train to and from work. Today, I had the misfortune of ending up on a bus behind a woman and her three fairly young kids.

Two of them insisted on standing up in the seats pretty much the whole time - and Mama didn't stop them from doing so. And the youngest developed an overwhelming interest in the bell pull. The only thing Mama did was swap seats with the second eldest, and that was only because there was no room to seat both her and them. I'm thinking if she'd had at least one less kid, she'd have time to teach them proper behavior....

I'm just happy they got off a few stops later....

Bad name is bad

Dear cousin of a friend,

You just popped one out. Congrats or whatever and all that jazz. However. Your surname is Brown.

WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING NAMING THAT POOR KID "CHARLIE"?

Especially with the child being a girl?!

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?

Gobsmacked,
- me

The cost of... vacations? :D

The idea came from a comment to a post in another comm on another site.

If you're starting to feel a bit left out and left behind as your peers around you do the married-with-kids thing, and you don't want to have kids but the sense of isolation increases, a trick for dealing with that was brought up.

Find out how much money on average you would spend on a weekly or bi-monthly or monthly basis (depending on your paychecks) and try to put that amount aside into a savings account.

Some figures )

Revised rules

I revised/clarified Rules #2 and 3, by the way. On rereading, I realized it likely wasn't clear to other people. Oops.
