Every Whisper, Of Every Waking Hour, I'm Choosing My Confessions...(Finished)
Who: L and Blythe
When: After L speaks with Beyond, a few days before Light's coming death.
Where: L and Frank's room.
Rating: PG
Warnings: Frustration, sadness, and the fact that L obviously still loves Blythe. :(
Summary: L and Blythe meet, for what L thinks may be the last time. There is a whole lot he wants to say... and a whole lot he feels he's unable to. Blythe has been worried and confused, and needs to get some sort of sense that things are going to be OK.
Ah, Faustus!
Now hast thou but one bare hour to live
And then thou must be damned perpetually!
Stand still, you ever-moving spheres of heaven,
That time may cease, and midnight never come;
Fair Nature's eye, rise, rise again, nad make
Perpetual day; or let this hour be but
A year, a month, a week, a natural day,
That Faustus may repent and save his soul!"
L tossed aside that book. It was not calming him. He lifted another and turned to a random page.
He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. Is not life a hundred times too short for us to bore ourselves?
Dear God. Not Nietzsche. Anyone but Nietzsche, today. L reached for a comforting favorite. In his mind, he started to absentmindedly pray to some entity for guidance. Words that meant something, words to give him strength...
Much unhappiness has come into the world because of bewilderment and things left unsaid.
L did something he never had before. He took his hand to the page and tore it, holding the words in his palm like a dying and much beloved creature of delicacy and brilliance. Bewilderment and things left unsaid... For true.
