WHO: Audrey Wadcock & Fiona Kemp
WHAT: Aud & Fi talk and snuggle
WHERE: their teeny tiny bedsit
WHEN: Wednesday evening
WARNINGS/RATING/STATUS: Cuteness & snuggling!/G/Finished log
Juggling the grocery bags, Aud glanced up at the sky, dark and cloudy, hanging low and close to the city. There wasn’t much they could have in the flat, given the size and lack of kitchen. She always bought fruit though, as much as she could afford, so she wouldn’t feel quite so bad about all the eating out they did. Squinting towards the direction of the flat, she hoped she’d make it home before the storm broke, and quickened her steps, hopping over the kerb and up onto the sidewalk. It wasn’t to be, however, because she was only a block and a half away when the first crack of thunder sounded, followed a moment later by a near torrential downpour and Aud let out a little shriek, breaking into a run.
It was no use; by the time she got to their building, she was soaked, her hair plastered to her head, her shoes squelching with every step and she sopped into the building and up the four flights of stairs to their flat, dejectedly. Letting herself in, she dropped the bags by the floor and pouted across at Fi. “Baby,” she grumped.
“Hey Mo-” Fi glanced over her shoulder, slowly rolling off the bed until she saw her girlfriend and her drenched state. “Mouse!” She hurried to the linen cupboard and pulled out a towel, wrapping it around her girlfriend. “Aw, you’re soaked!” She chuckled, rubbing the other girl’s arms to warm her before she spun around to pull out dry clothes for her.
“It’s raining,” Audrey answered, rather unnecessarily, as she hung her bag and jacket off the coat rack and pushed her shoes off, padding to the radiator and setting them on top of the painted cover. She reached down and tugged her shirt off, spreading that out beside her shoes and shimmying out of her jeans, standing there shivering in her bra and knickers.
“I got that,” Fi smiled, passing her girlfriend a pair of pajama pants and a shirt. She tugged the other girl forward as she pressed the clothes into her hands and gave her a soft kiss. “I missed you.”
“I missed you, too,” Aud kissed her back, dropping the towel onto the bed and wriggling out of her bra and panties, before tugging the cosy pyjamas on. “What’d you do today?” she asked, clambering into bed and tugging Fi with her for some snuggles. “Anything fun?”
“Not really,” Fi shrugged, snuggling close to Aud as she tugged the covers up over them. “Cleaned up some, “ she said, not that it took a lot of time to clean the tiny room. “And I looked through my journal for a bit..”
“Anything going on?” Aud asked, curling around her girlfriend. She hadn’t been able to keep up with her journal, she didn’t even want to think about what she was missing at school. It made her too sad, so she just tried to focus on the good things in their life now; that she could come home to Fi every night, that she had lucked out and gotten a job that she not only truly enjoyed, but that paid very well, and that she and Fi had all the privacy they could want.
Fi nodded before she responded, snuggling closer to the other girl. She’d more than once thought about their decision to leave school and had questioned more than once whether it had been the right decision. “Dumbledore is gone, Snape is the Headmaster now.”
“Snape!” Aud pulled back slightly, staring up at the other girl. “What do you mean gone? What happened to Dumbledore?”
“I don’t know, nobody has said exactly what happened, just that Snape is the new Headmaster. I saw somebody complaining, they said the Governors have removed Dumbledore before but...they couldn’t really have done that, could they?”
Furrowing her brows, Aud looked around the room for her journal, but it was across the flat and she shook her head, looking back to Fi. “I can’t imagine that he would’ve just … put up with it. How could they just remove him? Why would he let them?” She frowned, and tucked herself closer to Fi. “I guess this means we’re not going back.”
“I don’t know,” Fi shook her head and nuzzled her head against Aud’s. “I guess not...I mean, this is what we were worried about, it’s all actually happening...” Fi trailed off distractedly, getting lost in her thoughts. She’d thought about how much of a target Hogwarts was when they’d left but there was still a part of her clinging to the hope they’d end up back there.
“It’s alright,” Aud twisted and wrapped her arms around Fi, trying to keep up a brave face for her girlfriend. “We’re doing fine here, we’ll be okay, we can even move! Get a bigger flat, with a kitchen, and I can cook for you.”
“I can’t cook,” Fi mumbled, burrowing her face in Audrey’s shoulder. “No, I can make noodles. And breakfast. Eggs, cereal.”
“You can make me breakfast in bed,” she told Fi, stroking her hair gently. “I’ll make us dinner. In bed, too, if you like.”
Fi smiled against Audrey’s shoulder and pressed a kiss to it. “I like eating in bed,” she muttered, grinning wide as she squirmed against her girlfriend.
Relieved to see the smile on Fi’s face, Aud ducked her head and pressed a kiss to Fi’s. “I like eating other places,” she responded, only just able to swallow a mischievous giggle.
Reaching up, Fi wrapped her arms around Aud’s neck and kissed her firmly. She only broke off after a few moments when her stomach gave a loud grumble.
Aud grinned at the grumble, reaching down and tickling her girlfriend’s stomach lightly. “I got fruit,” she told Fi, nuzzling against her neck. “Or we can go down to the cafe and get soup. It’s a good day for soup. D’you think they’ll deliver to us?”
Fi grinned widely and squirmed, so glad she had Audrey with her. “What kind of fruit?” She asked, her brow furrowing slightly as she considered the options.
“Bananas,” she answered, drawing idle patterns along Fi’s stomach with her fingers. “And apples and grapes, ooh and oranges, too. They were on sale.”
“I love oranges,” Fiona said, hungry for something that wasn’t their normal take out. “And bananas.” She wanted to hop off the bed and get a snack but she also didn’t want to pull away from Aud’s hand. “We could have tea too,” she said, thinking about the rainy day. “Instead of soup. It will at least be warm and comforting. And then we can stay in.”
“I wish we could make banana pudding,” Aud mused, wondering if they could, then immediately dismissing the idea as they had no way to keep the pudding cool. “Maybe some day,” she said, after a moment, nuzzling her girlfriend. “I think we still have some peanut butter though, I used to love peanut butter and bananas.”
“I want sticky toffee pudding,” Fiona sighed, trying (and failing) to not think about what Hogwarts would be laying out that evening. “Do we have honey?” She asked, thinking that a peanut butter, banana and honey sandwich would be almost as good.
Frowning slightly in thought, Aud tapped her chin lightly. “I think we do, I had some in my tea yesterday,” she echoed Fi’s sigh and snuggled closer. “Baby, I was thinking...” she started, then trailed off, idly tracing a heart against Fi’s stomach.
“What were you thinking?” Fi prompted, gently stroking her girlfriend’s hair.
“Maybe we could look for somewhere else to live?” she asked, quirking her lips to the side thoughtfully. “Just so we can have a little kitchen, and cook, you know? We’ve got more than enough money that it wouldn’t be that difficult to pay a little more. I don’t want anything crazy, just... you know... a little bigger than... this.”
“Do you think we could afford that?” Fi asked hesitantly, worried about relying too heavily on Aud and not pulling her fair share of the load. “It’d be nice..” she admitted, not entirely thrilled either with their living arrangements. And moving on did make sense if they were supposed to be on the run.
“I think so, I mean,” she furrowed her brows and calculated quickly. “Together, we make enough a week to pay the whole month’s rent. I just thought we could look for something a little bigger. Maybe still a one room flat?” She snuggled closer to Fi and pressed an idle kiss to her jaw. “One day, I’d like a little cottage, with a garden, by the sea. And a bay window where we can sit and snuggle and read while it rains.”
“That’d be lovely,” Fi nodded, nuzzling her girlfriend. “Someplace out of the city? I like the trees and all, as exciting and the city can be.” It was tempting to agree with her, find a larger, more comfortable place but she still hesitated over putting the burden on Aud’s shoulders. “I can’t afford too much more,” she said softly, kissing her forehead.
“We can, though,” Audrey responded, tipping her head back to kiss Fi. She didn’t see it as herself making more money than Fi, she considered her money Fi’s, they were in this together, so why not share everything? “Someplace with a big yard, so we can have lots of flowers, and a puppy, and a kitten!”
“But that’s not all fair, is it?” Fi asked, happily kissing Aud. “I want to do my share.”
“Why isn’t it fair?” Aud asked, her brow furrowing. “You don’t work as often as I do, but it’s not your fault. I dont mind, what else am I gonna do with the money but spend it on my girlfriend?”
“I just don’t want you to have to work too hard.”
“I won’t,” Audrey assured the other girl. “I’d work the same, regardless of where we live, and besides, I love my job! Being a nanny is brilliant, it doesn’t feel like working at all. And even if it did, I wouldn’t mind, I just want you to be happy.”
“I want us to be happy,” Fiona said, her brow furrowing a little as she worried over her girlfriend. “And I think a bigger place would be nice.”
“I’m happy if you’re happy,” Aud told her, wrapping her arms around the other girl, smiling widely. She still had the money left that she’d borrowed from her parents vault, that coupled with her income meant that they had plenty of money to get themselves a cosy little flat, and even would leave a little left over for some decorating!
