The 1930s and you!
And another! This one's not so modly though. :) We simply wanted to go over a couple of 1930s things that might impact on your characters. (We stole your title, Sascha.. sorry/thanks!)
Alcohol is going to be a big one for some. While prohibition essentially ended nationally in 1933, states were able to set their own laws on the production, sale and consumption of alcohol. Oklahoma, where we're beginning, was one of those states where prohibition was still enforced. They had a slight concession in beer (max. 3.2% alcohol) being legal though. If your character wants anything stronger, however, they're probably going to have to go and make friends with some moonshiners. :)
Another thing to think about is contraception. You're welcome to skim this, but there's still a year to go till physicians can legally acquire contraceptives and it's not something that's been taught medically for another couple of years. Oh, and no pill obviously. That said, by this point they'd been sold for decades as hygiene products (along with the other hygiene products ;). (Condoms were available for men, btw.) Anyway! We're not really expecting people to go into this too much. It's more just so you know.. and it's interesting to see how these things have come along over the years!
While we're going over these things though, obviously technology is a big one. There are no cell phone towers, television isn't quite a thing yet, places aren't so well lit, etc.. Radio is big, though, and if they go somewhere with a picture show, I'm sure a number of them will hit that on their day off. The carnival has some generator carts and fuel, obviously, to light things up and get the rides going come showtime. (1930s Radio and 1935 in Film.)
All right, that's probably enough babbling for now. Thanks guys!
