The Games Begin
The mission parameters had been given to the squadron’s commanding officers and it was up to them to provide the necessary details to their squadron prior to the start of the training mission down on Aerilon. Callie had been briefed on the instructions from the XO about the scenario down below and now it was time to brief the remainder of her squadron on the details before they even got seated in their cockpits.
Callie stood in the pilot’s ready room, the stench of adrenaline as always strong throughout the room. The seats were already occupied by the Death Angels squadron, fully dressed in flight suit and accompanied by a clipboard to take notes about the coming war games. She had still not gotten used to standing in front of the seats rather than sitting in them with everyone else. Times changed and she was still catching up.
“Okay boys and girls, as you are aware, colonial command has issued orders for us to take part in strenuous training exercises down below on Aerilon. Ground forces will be posted at Fort Gallant for eight days of ground training and we, along with the Vampires are to provide close air-to-ground support. “ Callie paused for a moment and listened to the chatter, the upbeat atmosphere about the coming games which would include war games. It was always good to run a tight ship and she did but she wasn’t a machine.
Silence was broken when Callie opened her mouth again, “This may only be a training mission but I want everyone to take this seriously and perform with a high level of professionalism. If we perform well then everyone can look forward to a few days leave of liberty as ordered by the commanding officer before returning for war games scenarios…and as an added incentive, I have personally issued a bet with the Vampires commanding officer and I don’t tend on losing.” Callie looked around the faces, mature and young.
“I don’t plan on parading around naked in front of the entire flight deck so…I want everyone to do their best out there” Callie stood tall at the front of the room, a mild smile across her lips as everyone had a little giggle to themselves about the added bet with her opposite number within the Vampires. It would be interesting to see what the bet was if the Death Angels won and the Vampires lost.
“Now, keep your heads down and good hunting” Callie nodded to her squadron, some she had personally picked while others were just there when she was chosen for the command position for the squadron. The briefing was short and to the point as there wasn’t much point talking, it was better performing. She watched as the faces of her squadron started up onto their feet and exited the pilot’s ready room. After a moment of waiting, feeling good about herself, Callie followed as the games were soon to begin.
