Summary: No amount of Eastern Philosophy, green tea or herbal remedy is going to make Cho feel better.
Cho had seen her fellow aurors dropping like flies under the weight of whatever this plague was. At first many seemed to think it was the flu that had been going around now for a few weeks.
But apparently it was something a little more sinister. Coughs and colds turned into pox marks, and then came blurred vision, vomiting and diarrhoea. Cho had heard that there were all these symptoms, and more. It sounded like it was the Dragon pox, but it just wasn't throwing out even a hint of the greenish skin associated with it. Cho had seen it far too often back in the poorer areas of Hong Kong, and it truly did fit the symptoms.
She had ignored her own cough. It was nothing compared to what the others seemed to be going through at this time. Anyway, she blamed hers on that crazy set of apparition jumps to bring Terence Higgs back home. She needed to check up on him - make sure he wasn't going to remember or say anything about her identity, and she kept a close watch on his home. So her chest was hurting as she breathed, but that was normal with an upper respiratory tract infection. There was little to do for that but to keep warm, get steam into her lungs, and surround herself with positive energy.
Her t'ai chi routine seemed to be betting harder and harder every morning, and no amount of green tea or other herbal remedies were helping. But someone has to soldier on through all this sickness and keep working. She was sweating profusely, even with the window wide open and the cold air from outside blowing into the office. It was easier to breathe the cool air, and Cho found she could get some relief with her breathing. She tried not to let it affect the other's desks, but her spells were just not working properly.
She forewent any actual active duties today - deliberately eschewing duty on the apparition checkpoints (even if they were almost undermanned). Sitting at her desk, she felt a day of writing up reports would give her the energy to get over this flu, and return to normal.
The paperwork seemed to start swimming, and she blinked to clear her eyes. Another coughing fit overtook her, and she found that she felt a moment of relief. She stood up to get herself a glass of water, not feeling enough energy to summon any. As she stood, she suspected she'd got up too fast, as she felt the blood rushing from her head and her vision went. Clutching her hand to her head, she heard a voice, and looked up. "I can't see," she said in a matter-of-fact voice, wondering who it was talking. She couldn't see them.
Something definitely wasn't right. Just as she was about to wave them away, she broke out into more coughs, this time so intense she felt as if her lungs had ripped from her chest. Coughing hard, she fell to the floor in intense agony. The fit just got worse, and coupled with the fact she couldn't see, she was starting to panic and unable to draw breath. Her chest ached, and instead of the ghastly taste she was becoming familiar with in her mouth, she tasted a familiar coppery tang. Blood.
Dots swam before her eyes as she continued to cough and gasp for air, clutching at her chest to stop the hurting. Warm hands held her shoulders, and she tried to hear what was being said. It was no use, as a moment later those spots before her eyes overwhelmed her, and she passed out.
