Summary: Scarlett's back in town. She just doesn't know which one.
Completion: Complete
When Scarlett had woken up in the hospital bed a month ago, things hadn’t been as simple as she would have liked. For starters, she hadn’t known her name, then she hadn’t known where she came from, and finally she had a horrible scar on her temple that just refused to be covered up properly by glamours which meant – according to the mediwitch on the staff – that it was a magical injury, not a Muggle one.
The next day, she’d screamed herself silent when the nurse had pulled out a long wooden stick and cast spells with it.
A few days after that, she’d found her name out easily enough by sorting through her possessions – the man who’d dropped her off had left an address – and seeing her name engraved on many bits of jewellery. Scarlett or Lettie. A last name wasn’t given but she seemed to have lots of ‘House of Capper’ jewellery so she thought that might be a clue. Perhaps she’d inquire there.
Two days afterwards, she had no idea where the jewellery had come from and the letters lay unsent.
Clothes wise, she had plenty of expensive-looking robes and underwear so she supposed she was quite well-off. The house they were in was also sumptuous although she didn’t think it was hers, just that she was a guest there. It was really all too confusing.
Four days after, she hadn’t remembered the clothes at all and had worn her hospital-issue gown all day.
The Healers had said that the memory loss was probably connected to the scar, that scans showed she’d fractured her skull. They’d given her a list of spells and curses that could do such a thing but none of them rang a bell and she’d been unable to help the Spanish Aurors further. She also found it incredibly strange that she not only understood the Spanish but spoke it. Still, Scarlett wasn’t a very Spanish name and English came easier so she supposed she was from there.
Two weeks ago, things had started to come back. Names at first- Miles, Verity, Monty but no faces. Then one day, she’d had a flash of vision and had seen her and an admittedly gorgeous guy fighting before he’d sent a hex her way and she’d fallen down, everything fading to black. Another day, she’d had a face in her head, a blonde woman and incredibly pretty, but no matter what she did, the pictures came and went.
The Healers didn’t know what to make of that.
Finally, they’d decided that the spell that had hit her was a modified Memory spell. She’d been having a good day that day, remembering what her and… Massimo had been fighting about. She’d wanted to go back to England and her friends, he’d told her that she couldn’t do this again, that he wanted her to stay and not think of them and she’d pushed him away, told him no. It had been after that that the hex had been cast. The Healers said that the spell took away chunks of her memory at a time and that possibly, it could be fixed or would fade in the future. They explained that sometimes she’d remember a lot of things, sometimes nothing, and that most of the time even the things she knew would suddenly vanish, even if she relearned things.
This left her here in a funny village called Hogsmeade two weeks after that with her scar firmly hidden by her hair, their diagnosis written up and in her pocket just in case she forgot again. She was a bit confused about where this place was but saw the people heading towards her from the pub and was lost amongst them for a moment as she struggled past them, another nameless face in the crowd of people who’s names she wouldn’t remember even if she knew them well.
