OWL: Marietta to Cass: RP: Time to break out the cigar?
Date: September 9, 2006
Characters: Cass, Percy, Marietta - NPCed
Location: The sky
Private/Public: Private
Rating: G (depending on Cass' language when he reads this)
Warnings: None
Summary: Marietta needs someone to take care of her son – who better than his father?

As the sun rose on the morning after the funeral, Marietta wasn't sure what to do. In the bed behind her, still shaded from the sun was Aiden, soundly asleep. It was a scene that at once filled her with warmth and worry.

Warmth because even though she'd never really had him live with her, she did care for her son. Worry because even though she cared for him he was a problem – a threat to her plans. To her pending marriage.

'If he wasn't so conservative,' she whispered to the sleeping boy.

Only he was, the man who'd asked her to marry him. Which was why she'd hid her past. Her life as a prostitute, her child out of wedlock. He'd frown on it, reject her, and she couldn't allow that. Not when she was finally going to have that money she wanted, needed, deserved.

But what was she going to do with the boy? She couldn't just leave him. Things weren't as easy now, when her mother was no longer alive to care for him. Who was going to do it now?

She looked at her son, the red hair – a gift from her, though lighter than her own was. His eyes were closed but she knew the colour, the vivid blue – not her own green. His father's eyes.

That made a knut drop. His father!

She remembered the radio show, the one she'd felt had taken her back-up plan away from her. Cass in a relationship! With a man no less. But now it didn't seem like such a curse anymore.

If he was in a relationship he could take care of his son. Marietta smirked. This would work out after all. She would marry, have her money, and maybe one day in a few years she wouldn't have to worry about her husband any more. Then she could take Aiden back with her.

In the mean time it was time his father took some responsibility. She was still smiling when she reached for the parchment.

***

Cass,

I'm so sorry I haven't been in touch in forever but my poor aunt needed a lot more attention than I could ever dream of. So imagine my surprise when I heard your name on the radio!

A relationship? Seriously, did you miss me that much?

Just kidding, of course. Though it did get me thinking, and I realise haven't been fair to you. You see, there is something I never dared to tell you, mostly because I didn't think you'd be ready. But I guess if you can manage a relationship you can manage a bit of responsibility too.

You have a son, Cass. His name is Aiden and he just turned six years old. I am sorry that I haven't told you before, but first you went away and I didn't see you for five years and then with the way you reacted to Miles finding out about Liam, could you ever blame me for being nervous?

However, I want to make it up to you, and I think it's important that your son gets to know his father. Therefore, I have decided that it's best for all of us that Aiden goes to live with you for a while. I will spend that time arranging things after my mother's death, and of course I'll write to the boy and he can write back with a little help.

I'll have him in Hogsmeade by next week, I hope that is all right with everyone.

Kisses (or aren't you allowed them any more?),
Marietta

Cass stared at the letter in his hand. The initial surprise at receiving it had quickly given way to curiosity, which had giving way to shock going straight into gasping for air at the last part of the letter.

For a good few minutes he didn't think he would breathe again, then when he remembered how to do that he started swearing instead. Loudly and repeatedly, not sure of what else to do.

"Are you trying to write a new dictionary with all the curse words in the English language?" Percy asked as he stepped into the living room.

"What has happened now?" Percy asked, although he couldn't imagine anything worse than Umbridge and the latest battle. If there was, he didn't want to know.

Cass calmed when Percy came into the room, if by calmed meant panicked. How the fuck was he to tell Percy this? A... so-ki-chi-An Aiden? Suddenly feeling short of breath again, Cass avoided speaking all together and simply handed Percy the letter.

'If you know of a dictionary like that I might need it, I don't think I know enough curse words,' he finally managed to say, trying to fight the nerves that was suddenly trying to rip right through his stomach.

"I'm sure you can write it in your spare time," Percy commented. "Now, would you like to tell me what's going on or should I guess?"

He grabbed a seat and sat next to Cass. "We might be here a while if I start guessing. Is everyone all right? Emilia? Pansy? Anything problems? You might want to cut in at any time."

'Just-' Cass took a breath, stealing himself. 'Just read the letter,' he said biting his lip until he realised it was a good chance he'd bite through it if he kept doing it. His palms were sweaty and he was pretty sure he felt dizzy which was the only thing that kept him from pacing the room like a caged dog.

Caged was by the way a very good description of how he felt right now.

Maybe another trip abroad would be good. For a few months perhaps? Until this went away? Only even he knew that this wasn't going away, and unfortunately it affected Percy as much as himself and there was nothing he could do to stop that. Well Percy could, far too easily, though Cass was sure (desperately hoped) that Percy loved him too much for that.

Percy took the letter. He was a smart man, picking up what he read pretty quickly and yet he had to read the letter four times before he could digest what was there, and put some order to all that he was feeling.

"You're a father." He guessed that was the most important thing. "And you didn't know." That was just as important. He couldn't believe that Cass had a son this old and had no clue. "How... I mean I know how, but wouldn't you know? Shouldn't you-" He stopped abruptly. Yelling wasn't going to make things better.

"She sounds-' Like an opportunistic whore as far as Percy was concerned, no matter how everything was worded. "Make it up to you, have decided, she doesn't seem to care much about the boy- Aiden, does she?"

Hearing Percy say the words did not make it easier to accept, and more than ever Cass felt like running as far as his legs would carry him. Clearing his throat, he tried to piece things together, wiping the sweat from the palms of his hand off on his robes.

'I- Erm- We-' He paused, taking a deep breath, doing the math (how his mind managed that he wasn't sure) then started over. 'Marietta and I were "friends" a long time ago, when my father and grandfather were both still alive.' He frowned, trying to think about what had happened.

'We lost touch at some point-' he pondered it further. 'I think I got some mission, I was away for some months I think and we didn't have any contact, when I came back she was gone and I didn't think more about it or her. I ran into her again just... last year. About the time Romilda got murdered. But it was only a few times then she went to live with some aunt. I think I saw her twice, three times perhaps.'

He shook his head. 'I was in her house a year ago. There were no trace of a child, not even a photo of one.' Which brought him to the last part of what Percy said, something he hadn't even considered.

'What?' he asked. 'Oh, you think so?' He took the letter again, rereading it. 'It doesn't seem like it, does it?' For some reason that bothered him. Not out of some parental feeling (right now he didn't care about the boy at all, he had to admit), but he'd seen far too many of his friends suffer because their parents didn't care. No child deserved that.

"Yes, and just how many other 'friends' do you have who have conceived you children?" Percy asked, a little annoyed. He hadn't meant to say that, because the past should have stayed in the past, and he had promised to himself not to bring it up, but this was different.

Percy stood up and started to walk. "What? Is that all you can say? You read that your son- your own flesh and blood has a mother who sounds like she's ready to get rid of him and you're worrying about pictures in her house? Cass, are you out of your mind? Unless you miss the point of the letter, you are a father. This is your child, and she sounds unable or unwilling to take care of him."

God, he so didn't want this conversation, and the mere thought of children made him want to throw up. Or run. Or both. Yet running would mean running from Percy too and that he knew he couldn't do, no matter how scared the prospect of a child made him.

'I thought I was being careful!' he said weakly, confused, trying to remember this time. 'I don't get it, I- I used a potion, so did she! I mean obviously I forgot at some point, but the both of us?' Come to think of it, how had this happened? As far as he knew he hadn't been reckless. Had he even missed a potion? Obviously he had, but she'd been on a potion too, he was sure of that.

Unless she'd lied.

The thought made the bile in his throat rise again and he was suddenly very close to throwing up. Percy's repetition of the fact that he was a father didn't help either, and he could honestly say that he'd never been this scared in his life. Hell, he'd take Rodolphus on the battle field any day over this.

'Well, I need to focus on something and mothers usually have photos of their kids in their house!' He knew snapping wasn't helping, but was very close to hyperventilating and he couldn't think straight. 'Percy, I can't do this. I really can't fucking do this. I'm not like my dad, I'll fuck up. I can't... there is a fucking reason why I never wanted kids! I-' His voice broke, and he idly wondered if he looked half as scared as he felt.

"How many other times did you think you were being careful?" Percy asked sarcastically. He didn't know why he was surprised. With the amount of lovers Cass had had, mistakes were inevitable. In fact, it was shocking that there was only one mistakes... unless there were more and Cass had avoided dealing with them.

"Whether she lied or not doesn't seem relevant when the child is six years old. Try focusing on the fact that she obviously doesn't want him and he needs a parent. Maybe you should find out why the sudden confession. It seems unlikely that someone keeps a secret this long, and suddenly decides to give you the chance to spend time with him," Percy pointed out. "Again, regardless of all that, he still needs a parent. Are you going to abandon him because it doesn't fit your plans?" Maybe Cass should have a talk with his own father; they'd get along just fine.

Cass groaned, hiding his face in his hands. 'This can't be happening,' he mumbled to himself, trying desperately to steady his breathing enough to keep from fainting.

He barely heard Percy's word, his heart pounding so loudly it seemed to drown out all other sounds. That was, until the word abandon filtered through the noise. His head shot up almost on its own. 'What? No!' He shook his head. 'Look, I don't want to abandon the kid, I wouldn't, but- Gods, Percy, this is me we're talking about. I'd make a horrible parent. I'm irresponsible, I get myself in danger all the time and I don't know the first thing about raising a kid!'

'If mum and dad were around things would be different...' he stopped himself from saying more, because he didn't see the point in wishing for what couldn't be. 'Merlin, Percy, you don't even like kids. How are we-' He stopped himself, looking at Percy. 'We are still talking about we, here, right?' he asked, suddenly in need to hear Percy say that it was. This was something entirely different than what they'd started. If this kid, Aiden, suddenly came along... he wasn't so foolish as to not realise that it would change everything.

"No, not the kid, Cass. He's got a name, he's your son... he's not- Whatever you want." Percy raised his hands in surrender. This was the first time they were actually disagreeing on something. Even after he saw Cass with that Muggle, there wasn't a fight; Percy had simply chosen to go away and avoid any discussion, and now he was doing the same, except that he couldn't bring himself to do it.

"No, actually, no whatever you want. This is a child, your child. You don't get to make him and then say you don't know how to deal with it. My parents didn't know how to deal with me. Too perfect, too quiet, too different, it was all good when I got the grades, but they never did anything for me, they happily turned their backs on me when I didn't buy into the hero worshipping of Dumbledore, and you know what? It's not all right; it's never all right."

Percy tapped his foot, trying to calm down, but it wasn't easy. "I don't like kids. They are dirty, messy, unruly. I also would never treat a child like my parents treated me just because he's different from me. Of course, we're talking about 'we'."

Cass wasn't used to seeing Percy this upset, (and last time he had seen him this upset he'd ended up begging), but maybe it was good that he was because had Cass been alone he'd already be in Italy by now. Granted he'd come back once he'd calmed down, in a day or two, but right now he was panicking and couldn't think past the fact that he surely would ruin this child's life if he got anywhere near him.

That didn't mean that he didn't listen, however. As much as he wanted to stick his head in the sand and pretend this wasn't real he did listen, and he did understand. He'd seen the way Monty pretended not to care about his dad, the way others distanced themselves from theirs, disliked them - hated them in some cases. How did he stop himself from being the dad this child would one day grow to hate? The one who'd be blamed for everything that was wrong in his life? He couldn't escape the fear that he'd make a horrible parent, yet somehow he already knew he wouldn't abandon a child that was his. Make his mother take him while he visited rather than raised him would be preferable, but he didn't seem to have that option.

He sighed. Running his hands over his face and through his hair before looking up. 'It's not exactly what you signed on for though, is it?' he said quietly, then shaking his head. I'm not trying to run away and I don't want to abandon...my child, but I don't know what to do. How do I not become a horrible parent that this k - Aiden - will grow up to hate?'

'Please, can't you just come here and tell me how we're going to do this, Percy, because unless you didn't notice I'm panicking over here and I could use a little help to calm down.'

Percy didn't feel too calm himself. In fact, it was one of the few times in his life when he felt totally out of control, but he moved closer. He knew this wasn't something that Cass would have chosen, but a child couldn't possibly be a choice to be discarded when inconvenient.

"I 'signed up' to be with you." He caressed Cass' cheek and then his hand rested on Cass's hip. "We will deal with everything together, and everything means this child as well. We'll be fine." From the sound of it, they couldn't do much worse than the mother.

"You'll have to talk to this woman, figure out what's going on with her, because most mothers don't just pack off their children after keeping them a secret for years, and then we take Aiden home and make sure he knows we want him here." He smiled. "See, we just found something to keep you occupied: school, homework." He leaned over and kissed his lover. "We'll find a way, Cass; you'll see." It might not be a perfect way, or even close to great, but they were two smart men who'd seen everything that a family shouldn't be, doing the opposite couldn't be that hard. Percy kept telling himself that, because it was the only thing he could hold on to.

Cass wasn't sure they would be fine - or rather, he didn't feel sure that this child would be. No child should be suddenly separated from his mother like this, and it worried him. Somehow he came to think of Emilia, what life would have been like had she really been his mother.

He sighed, leaning his face into Percy's touch, letting it calm him. Well calm him until Percy mentioned school and homework. He groaned. 'I didn't even like school and homework when I went to school myself,' he grumbled, making a face.

Truth was that until Cass had met, and talked to, an Auror, thereby deciding immediately what was he wanted to do with his life, his marks had not been particularly good. He'd managed, but barely more - mostly because he didn't care to studdy but spent his time on a broom instead. Knowing what he wanted - and thereby needed - had made all the difference in the world motivation wise. Before then he'd much rather read books for fun than for studying.

'I'll talk to Marietta,' he then said, not looking forward to that either. Right now he wasn't sure he could without hexing the woman. Just thinking about it had him annoyed, and so he promptly changed subject.

'About having something to do though, don't you think it's time I started to work again?'

Ok so maybe not the smoothest transition, but nevertheless it was a question which had been on his mind. He moved around almost as well as before the coma (though he hadn't tried running yet), he had his wand and his magic got stronger every time he used it. Sure, he needed to train - but maybe he could do some good while training?

"That's all right. I liked school well enough for the both of us. You might want to keep that a secret from Aiden, though," Percy suggested with a tiny smile. "It's never good to tell a child that it's all right not to study."

Percy nodded. "Yes, talk to her and find out what's really happening. She might not tell you that part, though." He'd have to see if they had anything on this woman at the department.

He was still thinking of checking her background when Cass asked the question. "Work? We weren't sure if you could Apparate a week ago. Why don't you take some time to train, and make sure that you're all right, first? It'll also give you time with your son, getting used to our routine before you're off to saving the world with Morag."

Stepping back, he took a good look at Cass. "Are there any more, Cass? I have to ask, because with the number of lovers you had, I'm surprised you don't have an entire Quidditch team with reserves."

Cass smirked. 'I think I know how to keep a secret,' he said with a small smile, utterly grateful for Percy's presence in his life. Now more than ever.

He already knew he'd never be able to do this without him, not well at least.

'I don't know what she'll say, but I'm almost as good at spotting a lie as I am at giving one.' He sighed. 'If all else fails I do know how to cast a truth spell.' Not the most legal of options, but he wouldn't feel bad about using it on Marietta considering what she'd done.

'I am all right, Percy, but fine, I'll train first. With another person in the house though we need me to work too.' He ran his hand through his hair again, closing his eyes at the question as he shook his head.

'No.' He paused. 'Well not that I know of,' he amended. 'I've tried to always be careful. I've never wanted to subject a child to me as a parent.'

"Let's see if you can keep your love for school a secret," he said, smiling. "I don't want to know what you'll do, thank you, however, once you do talk to her, you might want to speak to Morag as well, seek legal advice. You don't want his boy passed around like a chattel." At least he hoped Cass didn't want that if it meant getting rid of the boy.

"We don't need for you to work, if you're worry about money," Percy said. "I have enough saved, and they pay me pretty well. Trust me, this is more than enough to take care of a family of three until you're feeling better."

Percy snorted at the no. "Right, that you know of, and tried too. And just how many of your dear friends would keep that information from you?" His mind was swirling with possibility, and he knew he was being ridiculous, but the truth was that Aiden might not be the only one. "You need to find out with certainty, because your claim of being careful isn't very convincing."

'Legal advice?' Cass looked up at Percy, confused for a moment before he realised what Percy ment. 'You think she'll want to take him back? Why on earth would she ship him off to live with us if that was her intention?'

But then again, it was quite clear that he didn't quite know Marietta, and that she wasn't always doing what should be done. If she had she would have told him about Aiden six years ago. He sighed. 'You're right, of course,' he said, then frowning as he realised something else. 'And we need to figure out what happens to him if something happens to me.' Not that he liked to think of it, but in the past year he'd nearly died twice - he wasn't stupid enough to realise that if there was a next time he might not wake up.

Gods, he really didn't want to think of any of this. He'd chosen, or thought he'd chosen, never to become a father just to avoid responsibilities like these. Now though, it didn't look like he had a choice any more.

When Percy mentioned money though, he snorted. 'Just what I always dreamed about - becoming a house wife. Should I attempt to learn to cook too?' he teased, though the smile died when Percy went on.

'Well hopefully none. I mean no one else. Oh fuck!' He tried to take a deep breath. 'Seriously though, what are the odds of it happening twice? Once is bad enough.' He wanted to say unusual too, but one thought of Miles stiffled that.

He nearly groaned again when he remembered the number of times he'd teased Miles about that. Perhaps it was for the best that they barely spoke any more. He wasn't sure he could handle teasing from him and Monty about this. Not yet at least.

He did need to get the boy a broom though.

"I don't know, Cass. I don't even know who she is, truthfully, but she's not saying that she wants you to raise him, only that she's 'making it up' to you, which leads me to think that it's not convenient for her to have him with her at the moment." The idea that she could be involved in the Death Eaters had occurred to him, but he wasn't sure how that might affect her decision to give the child to Cass. Maybe she'd seen the damage they had done on their town. "However, that doesn't mean that she might change her mind once he's not a burden anymore, right? And yes, there is that possibility, although now that you aren't an Auror, I'm hoping that it would minimise any more life-threatening injuries."

Percy looked terrified at the idea of Cass cooking. "Please, try not to. We will need the house more than ever and burning it down is not really a good start when trying to make a good impression on a child." He shivered at the thought of the other possibilities. "Feeding your food to the poor boy would probably make him run away."

He raised an eyebrow. "Odds? Seriously Cass, considering the number of bed partners you've had, I'd say that the odds that it didn't happen more than once are astronomical."

Cass nodded, his head spinning though he knew that Percy was right. He needed to make sure this child - his child (that thought still made him want to stick his head in the sand) - didn't suffer more than necessary. He sighed though when Percy went on. 'I'm still going to take part in battles, Percy, you know that. Every wand is needed, I can't sit by.' He paused. 'We can't ignore the possibility - which means we need to know what happens to this child - to Aiden - if that happens.'

Would his mother accept responsibility then? Would he even want her to? But if she didn't - or if it proved to be a bad thing for Aiden to be with her - would Percy even be willing to take over? While they were together it was one thing, but if he died..? Aiden wasn't Percy's responsibility after all. Fucking hell, he couldn't even fully believe he had a kid, or that he was even considering things like this.

The lighter conversation made him smile though, and he shook his head. 'Don't worry, I won't go near the kitchen.' The rest of what was said he tried to just ignore. His head was hurting bad enough already.

"I never said to ignore it, just that I'd like you alive and awake as much as possible. You also can't make a decision just yet. You need to speak with his mother, first, and then depending on the situation, we'll make a decision," Percy said.

He smiles, secretly relieved - or maybe not to secretly, because the thought of Cass in the kitchen was enough to give him a rash. "Good, I really like this house," he answered. "And don't think I've forgotten the rest. You'll have to find out if you have more children... you can't ignore the possibility now that it's starting you in the face."

Cass smiled, reaching up and caressing Percy's cheek. 'I'll try my best to stay safe,' he said softly. 'And yes, you're right. I need to speak to Marietta.' He had a head ache now, a large one, and in all of this the primary feeling was one of wanting to strangle Marietta. For not telling him six years ago. For not telling him a year ago when they met again. For dumping the child as if he wasn't worth her time.

How had he ever seen anything remotely attractive in this woman?

His thoughts of Marietta did not stop him from groaning when Percy went on. 'How, Percy? It's impossible. I lost my virginity when I was fourteen years old, and I can't even remember some of the women I had sex with back them. Even if I can probably remember most of them, I don't even know if they're alive or dead. Hell some of them aren't even English - or witches even. Where would I even begin to look?'

"The ministry would be a nice start," Percy said. He'd spent enough time reproducing and cataloguing records not to know that things were there, if only you were willing to look. "A child might not have your last name, but you would still show as the father. Get the records from when you started to have sex until now. It might take some time, but it can be done. I actually did a pretty good job at keeping things organized."

He sighed. "Of course, with Umbridge there, who knows what you will need to do to get those records." He suspected that she would make Cass jump through the hoops because of their relationship. "The only other place would be Hogwarts. They have the names of the children too."

'Oh great, so now I have to become that woman's lap dog?' Cass said with a snort. 'That will go over well. Can't I just strangle her and have it over with instead?'

He could strangle Marietta too while he was at it. 'And fucking hell Percy, you do realise that what you're talking about is going through every magical birth for well over a decade, and that for a large part of that decade there has been a baby boom. And that's not even counting the possibility of a foreign child - or will you try to get me to go through all the magical births in Italy too?'

"Mmmm, of course, I am to point out that strangling her is a crime and is punishable with serious jail time. However, should something happen to her, I can't say I shall be crying," he said with a smirk.

Percy sighed. "It's not my fault you can't keep it in your pants, now is it? I don't know, Cass. Do what you feel is right," he finally said.

That was the problem. Cass didn't know what was right. Even if they found another child - or even children (the thought made him shiver) - what then? They could hardly barge in at the mother's house and demand visitation rights to a child who didn't know him.

How would a child, a child that might not even be that young but perhaps as old as 12, react if a strange man had suddenly appeared in his home saying he was his, or her, father? Could he even consider doing it to someone.

'I don't know what's right, Percy,' he said tiredly. 'Even if there would be a child, which I doubt, but even if there were, perhaps they're better off without me?' He closed his eyes, trying to will the headache away. 'They might even have a man they call their father, should I then ruin their lives by - by doing what Percy?'

'What should I do?'

Percy couldn't believe what he was hearing. As much as he didn't like children, not knowing could never be the answer. "Ignorance is not the solution, Cass. Maybe there are no other children, and then you'd know for sure."

He took Cass' hand, and pulled him closer. "If there are, it doesn't mean that you're taking them from their mothers. However, shouldn't you at least know if they are well taken care of? Shouldn't they know that they have a father that cares enough to find out about them? Sooner or later things come out and how worse is that? What is someone else knows and they are in danger because of Lestrange. Think about Bletchley's son and how that happened. Secrets are rarely the answer."

Even the thought of Lestrange made him visibly shudder and he closed his eyes for a moment before looking up. 'You're assuming I'll be able to get the records in the first place,' he said with a sigh. 'We don't know that I will.'

He took a deep breath. 'Look, if I get at those records, and if I find any child, I'll agree that it would be wise to see if they're well taken care of, talk to the mother. But if there is a child out there with a man who calls himself his or her father, I won't just mess up that life. What right would I have to do that?'

'Not that it matters, I'm sure there is nothing. Two women can't be so stupid as to not tell me such a thing.'

"As I said, if you don't want to deal with the Ministry, there is always the school. You can ask Lupin, I can't imagine him saying no, and if he does, he's very close with Harry. I'm sure he would put in a good word, considering his own past," Percy answered.

"You know, you don't have to rush in. Find out, maybe I'm worrying for nothing, and you really were that careful, but if not, then you'll look at the particular and decide. This isn't something you can decide on a principle." He snorted. "Yeah, do you even know all the women you've slept with?"

He nodded. 'Perhaps that would be an easier way. Harry would...' tease him mercilessly, '...help me convince him.'

He wasn't too fond of Lupin either, he'd never liked werewolves, didn't trust them, especially not after their attack on Perth. Still, Lupin was a hell of a lot better than Umbridge.

He leaned his head into his hands again when Percy asked him if he knew all women he'd slept with, shaking his head. 'It took a few - or more - years before I realised that friends make better lovers than random fucks,' he admitted. 'And even then, there were a few who were the very temporary type of friends, or rather who left in a huff when they realised I wasn't joking when I said I'd never want a relationship with them.' He sighed. He never went into anything without open cards, but even if they agreed from the start there were always the ones who said one thing, meant another and hoped to "change him". It was rare that these women stayed his friend after they realised the change would never come.

He'd never really understood why they'd been the one to get angry when he'd been the one lied to. Especially since what they'd "found out" was only that he was being completely honest.

"If it ever came to the point where there are no options, I could say I need it for an investigation, but I'd rather not. If Umbridge finds out, it could give her all the ammunition she needs to push me out," Percy answered. "Try with Harry, first, and then we see."

Percy put an arm around Cass. "We're not even considering the trustworthy 'friends' you have." He huffed. "Let's not go too fast. Let's deal with Aiden first, okay? We can worry about any eventual other child when we find out that he or she even exists, and Cass, talk to her before next week, yes? You don't want to have this discussion in front of the boy. You might even want to point out your situation with Lestrange. If the boy starts living with us, we'll protect him, but she won't be able to take him and leave him at random. He won't be protected with her. You also have to see if this ... this is a trick. Does she support the Lestranges? Maybe that's a way to get to you, maybe a paternity spell to make sure she isn't lying. These are all things that shouldn't be discussed in front of him."

'Gods no, Percy!' Cass responded, shaking his head. 'You can't risk your job, if there isn't any other way then wait until she's gone. You can't give her anything to use against you - not when there are so many more important things than us to consider.'

He sighed, leaning into Percy even as he shook his head. 'My real friends would never do anything like this,' he said softly, sounding tired.

'I'll write her back,' he then said, wondering if he could keep all of this in his mind when meeting with her. 'See if I can't see her in a day or two, and no, even I realise that you don't talk of things like this in front of a child.'

"Again, let's worry when things happens," Percy said softly, as he rubbed Cass' back. "You can talk with Harry first, and we'll go that route, and if it's problem, then we see."

He kisses Cass again. "Maybe we should go out," he suggested. It wasn't something he liked to do, but staying home would mean discussing the same thing over and over, and there was nothing they could do right now. "We can have dinner at Pansy's inn. Would you like to go?"

It was with surprise he heard Percy's suggestion, it was so unlike him, yet Cass was not one to say no to time out, and if Percy didn't feel like cooking who was he to argue?

'Sure we can go out,' he said, kissing Percy again. 'Pansy's inn will be wonderful, unless you want to spite the Minister and take a trip to Muggle London,' he joked. Really how would she ever check?

He chuckled. "As much as I'd love to annoy her, I'd rather not change into Muggle clothes. We can go to the inn."

He kissed Cass, and then stepped back. It took only a few minutes to get ready, but as they left Percy wondered just how much their lives would change in a few days.
