Entry tags:* september 2006, - battle, ginny longbottom (weasley), rodolphus lestrange

RP: A Place Of Meaning
Date: 5 September 2006 (early morning, just before dawn)
Characters: Rodolphus Lestrange and diverse others (let me know and I'll add them)
Location: Godric's Hollow
Private/Public: Public
Rating: Oh, let's say R for now
Warnings: Violence, fighting (more to be added)
Summary: Rodolphus stops foxing and bluffing and shows that he might be minus an arm but he's not out for the count.
Completion: Incomplete

Rodolphus stood on a small rise overlooking Godric’s Hollow. He had his wand in his hand and a tiny smirk on his face. He also looked completely and utterly healthy except for the lack of one arm. He missed his sword and it seemed strange to go into a battle without one but his research into the silver hand Voldemort had given Wormtail was progressing well and he expected to have some sort of result with the next couple of weeks.

But that was a matter for later contemplation. Today was for Godric’s Hollow. Just below him were the ruins of the Potter’s home, the place where the Dark Lord’s plans first came unstuck. There was little left of the house but it seemed an appropriate place to begin, if for no other reason than it would bring Potter and his sycophants boiling out like tiny, furious ants. Anger would play into his hands. Angry people made mistakes.

He glanced to either side to check that those with him were ready. The other groups around the village would move when they saw the flames from the Potter’s home and they had better be ready or he would have words with them afterwards.

Once he was assured that everything was in readiness, he raised his wand. A single barked word later and the house below him was in flames, the fire stretching high into the night sky. Rodolphus smiled coldly, cruelly, then started down the hill.

Godric's Hollow is on fire. Please send help.

The owl was short and unsigned, but it caused a chill of fear to run down Ginny's spine anyway, when the owl landed on her desk. She was the only Auror in the main room, the rest of the Aurors on duty were either out on routine patrol, or sparring in the basement. She wasn't sure where Percy was, but she couldn't wait to find out. She sent a quick owl to him, and a Patronus, and hoped that it found him in time. But she couldn't wait for instructions before acting. She had to consider this a legitimate threat, and act as such.

She set off the internal alarm that would let the other Aurors in the building know there was trouble, and as she waited she sent a Patronus to Neville, Harry and Remus. The one to Neville probably wasn't strictly protocol, but she wanted him to know where she was. She was quick and to the point, letting them know where she was and to come as soon as possible. She was shocked for a moment at the form her Patronus took--it was an Archer, when before it had been a lion. Knowing she had no time to wonder what that meant, she pushed the thought from her head.

By the time the Patroni had disappeared, the rest of the Aurors had arrived. There were five of them all together, and Ginny had no idea if that was enough. Cormac was there, and she told him to gather the rest of the Aurors and send a second force of ten Aurors behind her as soon as possible. He nodded, and she was scared he intended to be one of them. There was no time to remind him of his leg, as she and the other four Aurors on duty headed to the Apparition point.

It didn't take long, and before they all Apparated Ginny reminded them that they should be at the ready, but be prepared for any eventuality.

They appeared on the outskirts of Godric's Hollow, and as soon as she was able to see ahead, she knew they were in trouble. Rodolphus Lestrange was striding down the hill, flames from Harry's old home framing his silhouette. There were only five Aurors, against who knew how many Death Eaters, but hopefully, help would be arriving soon.

He could never sleep when Ginny had the late shift, Neville only tossed and turned without her there beside him, left with thoughts of his mother and what could happen when Ginny was out late. Sure she could handle herself, more than handle herself.... it's just, the enemy was sneaky and wouldn't think twice hitting her in the back, or a surprise attack.

That morning was no different, he sat up in bed around dawn and tried to read to get a couple more hours sleep when a patronus wandered into their bedroom....An Archer. "Ginny..."

Neville snapped the book shut and got dressed, rushing out to the apparition point to head to Longbottom House first... where his supplies were. But on the way, even though the patronus was alerting him to an attack at Godric's Hollow, Neville couldn't help a smile and feel a warm glow inside. Ginny's patronus had changed, to him.... or part of him.
