Summary: Just like old times. Romilda learns what is going on at her son's pub - and what Miles is getting up to, and she's not happy. She turns to the one person she knows will be able to help. Theo
Romilda didn't know if a ghost could be shocked, but she was doing a very good impression of being completely stunned. Ever since Rosmerta died, she'd been trying to avoid visiting the Three Broomsticks. But now that Liam owned it, and Miles was running it, her sixth sense (the scepticism sense) told her it was time to check in and see if he was making a reasonable go of keeping the place running.
At first she was glad to see Seamus was behind the bar, and that the place looked clean. It was busy, and she even managed a smile as she saw Kevin playing music in his little stage area.
Keeping well out of sight (lest she scare off a customer, and then Miles could really have reason to get pissy at her) she even managed a smirk as she saw Miles actually come out and pull a few butterbeers.
But then she was a little suspicious when a fellow came in, whispered furtively to Miles before Miles took him back to the office. Eavesdropping was a hell of a lot easier now, but she almost gave herself away when she heard the fellow telling Miles information to pass on to Rodolphus!
Miles had turned the place into a bloody information station! And he was now passing on information directly to her own murderer? She was livid. But rather than confront him on the spot, she thought to quell her temper a little.
It actually didn't help that she thought to go upstairs, hoping to see the girls she once worked with plying their trade. It was an even greater shock to discover brand new girls (she really didn't care that Jane had gone), but they seemed... smug and cocky.
Romilda had never truly been a voyeur, but the girls made even her spirit crawl, and she worried that there was something about those girls that was fishy. Giving in to her promise never to interfere with matters (how could she not? This was her son's pub, and a legacy for him), she only had to watch two of the girls in action, and then their further conversation to realise they too were death eaters. They were collecting information from their clients, and it was apparently going to be passed back again to Lestrange.
Even she could see this was not good, and she itched to do something. She couldn't exactly go to Miles and tell him what she heard - the bastard was in thick and deep. It was the only time she was grateful that Miles had actually found a woman that Liam liked so that he didn't have to bring him into this environment.
But she couldn't just sit back and do nothing. Not that she could do anything, but she could at least tell someone. Once the initial shock wore off, she pondered who she could tell. If she went to an auror, would they believe her? Worse yet, if they did, they would arrest Miles, and Liam would be without his father. As much as she liked that idea, she knew it would only hurt her son, and she couldn't do that to him.
One name came to mind - someone with enough skill and cunning to take on Miles, and possibly be able to do something about this. Someone who had promised to look after her son, no matter what. It was a long shot - a stretch that her live self would have laughed at. Going to the one person who tormented her for so long.
He couldn't hurt or harm her any more, and he had made a promise to look out for Liam. The one thing she did know about Theo was that he had always been true to his word. He never made a threat he didn't carry out, and the few times he'd promised good things, and rewards, he delivered on them.
She had never been to Theo's real home, but over the past few months, she had learned a few tricks. If her need was great enough to get to where her son was, or someone who had touched her son, she could will herself to a place. Luckily, Liam had been to 'Uncle Theo's' house, and said they'd ridden horses. That was good enough for her.
Closing her eyes, Romilda willed herself to be where Theo was. She didn't realise it took nearly a whole day to will herself there, but eventually she felt her surroundings shift. Opening her eyes, she saw herself in a well appointed study, Theo sitting at a desk as he completed some correspondence. Thankfully, she was alone. The last thing she wanted to do was meet that wife of his.
Something had changed about him since she last remembered seeing him, but theirs had never been a ... fond ... relationship. He looked a little... softer. She couldn't put her finger on it, but she hovered near the door, her arms folded. Now that she was here, she wondered just what she was going to say.
"Ahem," she said in a voice loud enough for him to hear. "Bet you weren't expecting to see me."
