Summary: Percy and Cass discuss Shacklebolt's death

Percy answered Williamson and then penned an owl to Tiberius to let him know of the situation. He had ignored Cass' looks. He needed all the energy to move, and even though the fever wasn't so bad and the allucinations were gone, he was still full of aches and pains. When he'd finally managed to convince the mediwizard that he needed owls to send messages, he breathed easier. He sent the two messages, and finally sat down again.

"It was Williamson. Shacklebolt is dead," he finally told Cass. "I need to go back to the office, and before you say anything, yes, I'm well aware that I'm still sick, but someone needs to be there."

Cass didn't like the owls, or the working, and he definitely didn't like the scowl on Percy's face every time he moved. When he spoke however, he groaned.

'Fuck!' he exclaimed, giving Percy a worried look. 'You can barely move, how are you going to manage getting to the office?' he asked. 'Working from here when you're this tired is bad enough. Williamson can handle if for a few more days. Until you're better,' he said. 'And Jeff's there too, right?' Merlin he hoped he was. He'd never manage to get Percy to rest if he wasn't.

"Not now, thanks," Percy replied smoothly, and it was a sign that he was feeling slightly better that he could joke. "I'll crawl there if I have to, and yes, Williamson can run the office for the next day or two, but this is about appearances as everything else. I need to be there, show the people that it's fine, and you get matter even if people die."

Percy sighed knowing that it wouldn't be easy, but he had no choice. "We'll see when the funeral is. That will determine how much time I have. The sooner it is, the sooner I have to go back to the office."

Cass nearly rolled his eyes, though he did grin. 'Well later then,' he replied with a wink. 'And you shouldn't have to crawl to the office. We'll ask them to hold the funeral if needed. You need to get better first.'

He gave Percy a worried look. 'Look, I understand, I really do, but what is to say that you won't get worse again if you start working too soon?' he said. 'If you have another collapse - or worse - you won't be doing the office or yourself any good.'

"I'll make sure to pencil into my schedule, or you can ask Natalie for a free spot," he answered smiling. "And I'm sure it won't come to that. We're able to create Portkeys, aren't we? I can use one to go from the office to the house or this place if it gets to that."

He shook his head. "No, you don't. You do your job and you do it well, but this is different. I'm not there for my investigative skills. I'm there because I can make things go smooth while being a pureblood and a Weasley, assuaging everyone's fear. I need to be there, and I'm getting better, you know that, so stop worrying. If it makes you feel better, you can go back to work and make sure that I'm fine."

'Well that's a step in the right direction,' Cass answered with a grin. 'I'll hold you to that,' he added with a wink to show that he was joking. Only he wished he wasn't. But that was another matter.

'You forget that I'm clever as hell, I know why it's important. I do understand that. I just don't want you to make yourself worse again because that won't help anyone. Of course I'm going back to work when you are, and if you insist on going back too soon I'll spend my time there watching over you all the time.'

Percy rolled his eyes. "Of course you are... if you remember." He didn't understand how Cass could even think about sex when sick. In fact, he wasn't sure how Cass did it when not sick. Between work and all his friends with benefit, it was a wonder that he had time to sleep.

"I know you are, it's just-" He sighed. "It doesn't matter why, I still have to be there, but you're more than welcome to go back to work. In fact, if you're well enough to annoy me, then you're good enough to go back to work.

'That is something I'll be sure not to forget,' he said with a grin, though he sighed a bit when Percy moved on.

'Wait a few days at least, can you at least agree to that?' he asked. 'And if you start feeling ill again, promise me that you'll rest or take home early. If not for your own sake then for the sake of the office. Or to keep me from worrying myself ill again.'

'You know I'll bug you endlessly if you don't take care of yourself,' he added with a small smirk.

"It still surprises me how obsessed you are with sex, so you might be right about remembering," Percy commented, knowing that they were getting into dangerous ground. Neither of them was willing to compromise and besides this wasn't the best place to discuss it, even with all the spells around them.

"I'm not getting up this very minute. I've already told Williamson that he's in charge for a few days. I'm thinking Monday or Tuesday at the latest," he continued. "I'll keep some decent hours as long as Natalie doesn't start to look at me like she wants to hug me again, and you can even make sure that I have food and proper rest, as long as you do some work too."

'I'm not obsessed with sex, I'm obsessed with sex with you, there is a difference,' he said with a smirk.

'Monday is tomorrow,' he pointed out. 'You can barely sit up without wincing, you think that is going to go away by tomorrow?'

'And I'll hex Natalie if she hugs you then, and you can count on me taking care of you. I'll make Susan cook - and don't dare comment on that, because you seriously don't want me cooking for you, though it would be a good way of keeping you in bed.'

"I didn't say I would have been fine, but that I could have worked through it. Lying down here or in my office makes very little difference. They have no clue how to help, and I'd been safer at the office. In fact everyone would have been safer that way," Percy answered.

He shrugged. "I do what I must. That's all."

'You would have been safer taking a rest at home possibly, but hardly collapsing at the office,' Cass said, though somehow he knew this was pointless. He'd just have to try to make sure Percy didn't overdo it.

'You do more than you must, but I have a feeling that one isn't going to change any time soon,' he said with a roll of his eyes.

"I did not collapse. Ginny was exaggerating as usual. I could have stayed on the couch." He was sure that if he had managed to get to his couch, he'd still be there, because moving was work. He would have perfectly all right with setting up camp there.

"I do what I can, Cass, and stop acting like a mother hen. I'm fine," he said again.

'And you chose the floor because it was comfortable, then?' Cass asked with a roll of his eyes. 'But fine, I'll stop for now.'

He watched him, tilting his head. 'I'm still moving in until you're feeling better, though,' he added, showing that he had not changed his mind about that. And he'd make damn sure that Percy wasn't overdoing it.

"I chose the floor because Ginny was blocking the way to the couch," Percy said, grinning. "Blame it on my family; I usually do."

He lay down again, pulling the sheets over his shoulder. "You have an open invitation to the house, Cass. I've told you you can stay there for as long as you want, and telling me you'll be there isn't a threat." He shrugged, although it was camouflaged by the sheets. "I'm not the one who didn't accept."

Cass laughed, shaking his head. 'Right,' he said. 'Blame the poor girl who's not here to defend herself,' he said with a wink.

When Percy moved on though he bit his lip, looking up at the ceiling for a while. 'You're the reason I didn't accept, Percy, I've told you that,' he then said looking over at Percy. He wasn't sure Percy understood why he just couldn't live there as a friend, but, no, it would be impossible in the long run. 'The day I'll accept would be the day I share your bed, Percy, and we both know that when or if I do it will be the only bed I share. I won't make that decision until I know I can keep it.'

He didn't even notice that he'd failed to use the word if this time.

"Ginny is going to hex you silly if she hears you call her 'poor girl'," Percy said with a snort.

He watched Cass digest his words, but to be honest, he didn't expect the answer he got. "It doesn't have to be an all or nothing, Cass," he answered softly. "However, I respect your choice, and the offer... that's open until when or if you decide that it's what you want. You can still come and annoy me while I'm most certainly not sick."

Cass laughed. 'As if I would ever let her,' he said. 'I've far too big respect for her aim,' he added with s grin.

The softness of Percy's voice almost made him want to change his mind, but he knew he wouldn't be able to bring Susan or Natalie or Higgs around to Percy's house. No matter what Percy said he doubted he'd like it and he wouldn't put him through it. At the last words though he smirked. 'Oh you can always count on me annoying you. It's far too fun to give up,' he added with a wink.

"Details," Percy said, waving the objection off. "Although, you might want to prove how much you're worth as an Auror, by not getting injured. It would be such a refreshing change."

He watched Cass from his bed, wondering what was going through his mind, and Percy laughed when he finally spoke up. "Maybe you're the one who's sick and can't think." He cocked his head, looking at Cass. "You have to decide what you want, Cass; you know that. When you decided, don't expect me to walk back there, because I'm done moving for the day." He'd taken the first step, literally and metaphorically. Now it was up to Cass to do the rest.

For a man who'd ran from relationships all his life, who'd avoided trusting, getting close, this was probably the most terrifying situation in the world. Yet the option of not getting out of bed and closing that short distance between them wasn't really an option at all any more.

He was still terrified. Still scared shitless that he'd mess things up. But for once he didn't think too much before acting and he didn't even hesitate before he let his hand sneak around Percy's neck as he leaned down and kissed him. Really kissed him. There was nothing chaste over the kiss or him, not even when he pulled back and leaned his forehead against Percy's.

'I know what I want, Percy, it was never about that. Only if I can ever give enough, if I can be enough.'

Percy rested a hand on Cass' thigh as he kissed him back. The rational part of him screamed to stop. Not only was this detrimental to their careers, but they'd been sick, feverish, and stuck in a room for days. It should be wrong, and somewhat disgusting and yet it wasn't. In fact, it was just right.

When Cass pulled away, he pressed his hand against Cass' cheek. "You are enough, more than enough. That's not an issue. Whether you want this; that's different."

He was still scared, still worried, no matter what Percy said he wasn't sure he was worth the risk. That wasn't his decision to make though, but Percy's, and he seemed fine with that risk.

'I want this,' he said instead, his voice slightly shaky though he knew it was the truth. 'I want you.' He smirked. 'That doesn't stop me from being frightened as hell though. I'm not a Gryffindor - and this is uncharted territory. I am a Slytherin though, and we're not very good at denying ourselves what we want.'

Percy slid over, giving Cass room on the bed. "I hope you don't want this now, or I might pass out on you," he said wryly, but patted the bed at the same time.

"When we're out, then you decide, Cass. Don't do it now, because there is no going back, not without dealing with the consequences." He smiled softly. "You aren't good at denying yourself, and yet you think you're okay with not having anyone else, and you decide this while locked up in an hospital room after not having had sex for how long? I know you believe what you're saying, and if you think this in a few weeks, then fine. Don't make rush decisions."

Even as he got on the bed, he chuckled on Percy's words, letting his hand move through his curls. 'No, not now. I can wait,' he said with a smile.

'And don't ever think I'm saying what I'm saying do to lack of sex, Percy, or because you happen to be here with me,' he added. 'I've thought about this for a while. More that I've wanted to admit, even. It's not a rush decision.' It was the right decision. It felt right.

He smirked. 'If you need me to tell you again in a week or two then fine, I will,' he said. 'I won't change my mind.' He'd been trying to make it for weeks, now that he had he wasn't going back.

"That's good, because you don't have a choice," Percy answered.

He shook his head. "I'm not saying that, Cass. I'm saying that sex hasn't been on your mind 24/7 like it usually is. It's easier to think that you're willing to forgo all other sex when you've been to sick to want to have sex."

Percy nodded. "I'll hold you to that." He rested his head on Cass' shoulder. "I'm tired. I shouldn't be this tired." Work was going to be impossible, but he'd have to find a way to be there.

Cass didn't answer this time. Not because Percy was right, he knew he wasn't, but because he knew he'd never fully accept him saying that he was wrong. And he knew Percy was wrong about this, even when a small part of him seemed to want to run in the opposite direction. Most of him didn't, however. Most of him was quite content to be right where he was.

He smiled when Percy rested his head against his shoulder, leaning his own head against his. 'Rest. You've been up longer than usual,' he said, though he made no effort to move from the bed. Instead he made himself more comfortable, letting Percy rest against him. It felt oddly comforting, comfortable, right.

Why hadn't he made this decision earlier?
