He was still sleeping more than he had before the parasitic infection (aka pregnancy), but less than the past couple of months. He was down to only throwing up first thing int he morning, and he generally felt better. He was also less cranky. Like, a lot less cranky. As in he was treading alarmingly near to perky.
It was pissing Owen the fuck off, and even starting to get under Gwen's skin.
He shooed everyone off at the end of the day, rifled through his paper work for a minute, then got up. "Ianto," he sing-songed as he walked through the hub.
"I will kill you," Ianto sing-songed back.
He stopped and blinked. Then he shrugged it off, grinned, and tracked Ianto to his voice. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," he shook his head, "What's right?"
"No one's dead, the world's in one piece, and it's stopped raining."
"Let's go for a walk?" Ianto asked, finishing straightening up.
"Sure," he said, agreeably. "Water? Elsewhere?"
"To the bay," he said, grabbing both of their coats before stopping, horrified, "You're glowing, aren't you?"
He took his coat and slid it on. He stopped, fixing the collar, and looked up at Ianto. "I'm whating?"
"This is the glowing phase, isn't it?"
"...I have no idea what you're talking about, Ianto," he said, blankly.
Very, very blankly.
Ianto narrowed his eyes before saying smoothly, "Never mind, sir. Shall we go?"
He flipped his collar down, tugged at his sleeve and headed out - tourist office rather than up. "Tell me about your family."
"What?" Ianto looked startled.
"Tell me about your family," he repeated, with clearer enunciation, as he headed through the tourist center.
"Why?"
"Because you're planning to raise my child. " He stared, hard.
Ianto took a deep breath, "Oh. I have an older sister, and two older half-brothers."
"How much older? What happened to your parents?"
"Five, ten, and thirteen years older. My parents lived in the house I grew up in."
"Are you close to your siblings?"
"Moderately. My sister, mostly. Do you have siblings?"
"No." He shook his head. "And it wouldn't matter if I did."
"Why wouldn't it?"
"Because they wouldn't exist yet, anyway."
"But you remember them."
"Yeah? Well, no, because they never have existed, but I would if they had."
"Which was the point of the question, Jack."
"What was the point of the question?"
"Sharing information.'
"Okay," he said, mellowly.
"Tell me about you growing up." Ianto said, taking advantage of the mellow.
"Um. Little nothing town. Population about , altogether, and maybe a half-dozen kids around my age. I spent most of my time on the beach. Beautiful, beautiful beaches," he murmured at the end.
And now he was all nostalgic.
Fucking hormones.
Ianto squeezed Jack's hand lightly.
He blinked a little. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong."
"Why are you squeezing my hand?"
"I like your hand," he said determinedly. "It's a nice hand."
"Don't ever put it in a jar," he said, seriously.
"That's your department, sir."
"Just keep it that way. There's a fine line between flattering and obsession."
"And you criss-cross it with abandon?"
"I think I'm so far over it I can barely see it from where I am."
"Jack in the flat lands," he teased softly.
"Better than Jack in the box." He paused. "I want a burger."
"Steak instead?" Ianto asked.
"Why?" he asked, looking startled.
"Less preservatives than a burger."
"if life is nature's way of keeping meat fresh, I'm loaded with preservatives - and I want a burger. With chili, cheese, tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, and extra mayo." He looked around and started walking.
"You may regret that, sir," he followed after Jack.
"Maybe, but I'll be happy until then," he promised.
"Well, that's all that matters," he said dryly.
"Right now, it absolutely is."
"What's wrong?"
"...how does that translate to something being wrong?"
"Now means you anticipate later not being.'
"No, it means I value now more than later - and I want what I want more than I'm afraid of being sick later."
"I'll never understand that."
"Get pregnant. Have food cravings. You'll understand that." He found the place he was looking for, and wandered off to order his. Well, , calorie mess.
"I think I'll pass," Ianto said calmly, putting his hand on Jack's back possessively.
Jack arched into the hand and purred while he ordered.
Ianto smiled a bit wanly at the girl behind the counter who smiled and looked a bit starry eyed at Jack.
Ianto paid and took the tray to a table.
He gave the girl at the counter a brilliant, beautiful grin before he followed Ianto.
He took his food and drink, sat down and started unwrapping. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong," Ianto picked at his chips.
"Something's wrong," Jack said, seconds before somehow wrapping his mouth around his sandwich and taking a huge bite - without making a mess.
"Besides the fact that you just unhinged your jaw?"
"What?" he asked, mouth closed but still chewing. Somehow.
"Eat your sandwich, Jack," he shook his head.
"I am," he pointed out, after he'd swallowed. "I want to know what's wrong."
"Nothing's wrong."
"You sure?"
"Would I lie to you, sir?" Ianto asked warmly.
"Yes, Ianto,'" he said, patiently.
"...Touche, but I'm not."
"Okay," he finally accepted, and settled in and ate his damned burger with an intensity he usually reserved for sex.
"I think I'm jealous," Ianto said finally.
He stopped eating to look at Ianto. "Of what?"
"I've seen you perform fellatio less enthusiastically than you're eating that burger. And I didn't think that was possible."
"You'll stop being jealous when I decide to have a craving for your come," he promised, absently. "Actually, you know what's really cool?" he asked, with a grin that just was nothing short of wicked.
Ianto took a moment to make sure his voice wouldn't crack before asking, "What, sir?"
He leaned across the table, still grinning and said, very precisely. "I am almost sure the fucking thing is sitting on my prostate."
Pause. Pause. "How interesting, Captain."
He laughed at Ianto--hard-- and sat back to finish his sandwich and drink his water.
Ianto stuck his tongue out at Jack
"I'd kiss you but I should brush my teeth first." He was. Purring again, in a very nearly literal way.
"I don't mind," he said uncharacteristically.
He leaned forward, kissed Ianto softly and then yawned. "We should've brought the SUV."
"That defeats the point of a walk, Jack."
"Yeah, but now I'm tired."
"We could call a taxi."
"Now why didn't I think of that?" he asked, lazily. He dug his phone out and slid it to Ianto. "Would you, please?"
"Because exercise is good for you and we're not that far." He pocketed Jack's phone and held out a hand to help him up.
He growled, rolled his eyes, took Ianto's hand and pulled himself up. "You're evil."
"I've heard that," he slid his arm around Jack's waist protectively.
He put his arm around Ianto's shoulders, just for the contact, as they started walking. "Mm. Hearing it from me doesn't count."
