Edward Elric : Other : Arrival
The first thing he feels - ouch. His body is twisted into alarmingly asymetrical shapes.
Not good.
Alright. C'mon, Ed. Think. Think. Dammit- really ouch.
His head is pounding and he's lying on something pointy. But at least his limbs are responding. Kinda.
Fingers. Alright.
Feet. Yes.
Good. And face up is usually better than face down.
Now.
His brow wrinkles as his eyes slowly slit open.
Dark.
OK, then.
No one looming over him.
Better.
A rhythmic sussuration reaches his ears as he struggles to sit up. The unmistakeable salt tang to the air is another immediate clue that he's near the ocean.
"What the hell happened?" he whispers, voice rough, one hand searching himself automatically for damage. Oh, sonofa- "Winry's going to kill me." An uneven creaking marks the bending of his right elbow and he winces with anticipated pain at the beating he will most certainly receive when she sees the state of him. "Dammit."
His next thought - always. Alphonse. "Al? Al!"
No answer.
Shit.
He sifts absently through his recent memories to get a grasp on the who-what-when-where-why. No such luck. Blank, like an unpressed coin, at least for the moment. Fine. OK, so - groggy, head aching - if there is someone after him, he'd better get moving. Sliding heavily to his feet, he takes off as fast as he dares, mindful of the unfamiliar terrain.
He's soon left the beach behind and is skirting buildings and it is the natural conclusion to come to that he's in a town. Or something. It's sort of like Amestris, but clearly not, somehow. And a light just ahead. Something - an inn? Worth a try, right? And the first place Al would look for him. He might be there already. Besides - it's never a good idea to fight on an empty stomach.
He slips through the door into relative warmth, glancing around at unfamiliar faces and promptly sidling up to the bar. He gives the person behind it a winning grin, flipping his braid back over his shoulder. "Hey, there. Got anything to eat?"
