He listened intently to her, eyes taking in her every feature and noticing the small changes in mannerisms she'd taken in. He brought his hand up briefly to scratch thoughtfully at his chin with his thumbnail like he'd always done. Then both his hands returned to the phone while he spoke, his tone quieter now.
"I'm so sorry, Megan. I should..I should have never left. I should have come back sooner, you shouldn't have had to go through that alone. But I see that you are doing better now, even better than when I left."
It was an off-hand comment, he really was more focused on the fact of how much trouble he was in and that he was going to be in soooo much debt to her for an undisclosed amount of time. It wasn't even funny. He glanced down at his hands and flexed them a bit, setting the repaired phone on the coffee table. He answered out of reflex, but once it left his mouth..he couldn't change it.
"I'm a bit smarter, a bit faster. Nothing to write ho--nothing mentionable, I don't think I'll be donning a cape and fighting crime anytime soon."
It was basically true, but he liked to keep the scope of his powers hidden for the most part and maybe it was just because he knew how people could react to someone who could damn near be everywhere. His eyes fluttered to the phone and then back to her, he just wanted to be normal..and while the revelation of her newfound abilities made him want to be completely honest..well he thought it would be a more plausible future if he was more human.
