Characters: King (oldwounds) & Rachel (mindpowers) Setting: King's office. Content: PG-13, tops. Summary: King could always use a good lawyer.
Although King's office wasn't usually dirty in the slightest, he'd even cleared off a bit of the files and shoved down an entirely unwilling flicker of uncertainty. Very unusual for King, but employing Rachel Doyle to handle some of his cases could be both interesting - another link to Moretti, as well as a strong women in her own right - and helpful, as any connections made in the city were good connections at the moment. King wanted a foundation of strength, wanted to cement a few alliances before he tried to pull anything serious off. With the new drugs he was introducing to the markets, the big legal cases were still to come, but it would be good to have someone he could trust before then. Someone who he could depend on.
That was where Rachel came in. After his dalliance with her assistant, he was fairly sure he could push Harrison to put him to the front of the line with callers, but he was dread to drag a distinctly unprofessional relationship into what amounted to work. So he'd gone through other channels, but made himself very clear. He'd been extremely respectful, requested her presence, dangled the lure of both power and a significant amount of money, and hadn't pressed or harassed her.
He would schedule an appointment with him, in his private office, at her convenience, and he would wait. He had her chair set up, he had a few examples of why he needed her ready, and until she showed, he toyed with his Blackberry and stewed over everything that was going on.
His office was intimidating, but he didn't expect her to be intimidated. Expensive carpets, a view of the city to die for in plate glass to his right, his large black leather chair and sleek, minimalist bookshelves and matching desk. A secretary beside his front door to keep undesirables out...he could have been any businessman, behind a desk like this. Any businessman with several thousand dollars to blow on a really nice desk, that is.
