Jack picked up the electronic scanner and ran it over the bar code. He double checked to make sure everything checked out. With a sigh, he moved onto the next item. He had never liked doing inventory, and he especially didn't like it now. Artie had decided all of them would to inventory all day, and made sure all of them were away from their significant others. He claimed they worked better if they weren't around each other. Jack tried to point out that wasn't the truth but Artie didn't want to listen.
"Don't worry so much, Jack," Claudia said as she peeked through the shelf at him. "Regan's with Fred and I'm sure they're talking about books or something."
Looking over at her, Jack sighed. "I still don't know why Artie separated all of us," he said as he scanned another artifact.
"I think it's 'cause he's still sore from the verbal smackdown Mrs. F gave him last night," Claudia pointed out as she pulled something off her shelf and scanned it. "He looked really pissy after she left."
Jack nodded, knowing Claudia was probably right. He wasn't sure what was going on but Mrs. Frederick didn't seem very happy when she showed up at Leena's the night before. She had sent all of them upstairs so she could talk to Artie. After she was gone, Artie loudly announced they were doing inventory until further notice. When Regan complained about it, Artie had gotten upset with her, which seemed to start another fight. Artie didn't back off until Leena threatened to spray him with some goo.
"Whoa. What's wrong with Artie?" came Pete's voice.
Jack looked at his friend and shrugged. "We don't know. Did you just get back?" he asked.
"Yeah and the first thing Artie says to Myka and I is that we aren't working together anymore and sent her to go to Fred and me here," he said with a shrug.
"Mrs. Frederick stopped by last night and he has been grumpy ever since," Jack said as he handed a scanner to Pete.
"Joy," Pete muttered as he slowly started to do inventory.
