Note: As we've merely updated the thread before it vanishes into obscurity, the thread opener won't be counted into the word war counts ;)
Michael had always liked the library. He was picky, he didn't like every library but Hogwarts' library was surely among the finest libraries Michael had ever set foot into. It wasn't just because of the variety of books, he thought, but rather because of the numerous niches where he could retreat, curl up in a squashy armchair (they were there if you knew where to find them and if you stunned them before they hurried away!) and spend hours burying his nose in a book, giving himself in to blissful moments of escapism.
Today was not one of those days. Today Michael was a man with a mission and a pretty nasty one at that.
It had been two years ago that he'd first learned about his father. In contrast to what Michael had been told as a child, his father wasn't that artist who happened to wander off one day. His father was a Death Eater. A monster who left his mother pregnant and never bothered to look back. Who probably didn't even know that he fathered a son and that years later this son would drive himself crazy, trying to discern whether or not there was something evil inside of him as well, just waiting for the right moment to emerge. Perhaps it was but a little shove that was needed to turn Michael into someone he really didn't want to be. Perhaps it was something like doing the Unforgivables in class and finding out that he was really, scarily skilled at those and that he as fascinated as he was disgusted by what the Carrows taught them.
Thus Michael retreated to the library, hoping to find some hint about his father's identity in the old yearbooks. He worked diligently, soon having seen far too many pictures of pimply, gangly Slytherins but none of them looked even remotely like he did. He couldn't give up, though.
Michael yawned and stretched, his bones popping with the movement. He looked lazily at his watch, then gasped.
"Lavender!"
He was late for their study session! Hastily, Michael closed the yearbook and put it on the table where a whole stack of yearbooks waited to be read. But before he had the chance to take a single step there was a tremendous noise and the books tumbled to the ground. Muttering under his breath, Michael bent down to pick them up. And that's when he realised that he wasn't alone any more.
