Michael's bewildered smile turned into genuine amusement at Lavender's question, but for the sake of his physical health he decided not to go into it. They were high up there on the spectator's stands and he wouldn't put it past Lavender to hit him, Michael thought with a grin.
A moment later, however, he turned serious again. "I promise," he said quietly and, realizing belatedly that his hand stroking her cheek was an inappropriately intimate gesture for "just friends", Michael quickly snagged his hand back.
"But you need to promise me that this stays between us, because not even Terry and Anthony now. No one does." No one but her. There was a weird fluttery feeling in his stomach as Michael became aware of that fact.
