Official Game Timeline
January 10, 2009 - Rift opened at MIT; Torchwood personnel are dispatched to contain it.
January 12, 2009 - An ice hurricane hits the British Isles.
January 14, 2009 - A number of F-5 tornados sweep through Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, decimating everything in their paths.
January 16, 2009 - Hailstorms devastate Japan.
January 18, 2009 - All of New England is hit with massive rainstorms and high winds as the temperature starts dropping. Earthquake storms occur along all the major fault lines. Previously dormant/in-active volcanos begin to erupt.
January 30, 2009 - The weather phenomenon seem to stop, leaving the few survivors to figure out ways to survive in the decimated world. Some of them find themselves sucked into portals and deposited in what used to be Boston and begin working together to rebuild a society. Others find their way to the location on foot and decide to stay.
Note: Characters may be sucked in portals earlier or later than January 30, 2009. Since they are time/space portals, weeks or months could pass before they show up in Boston. And because there is no accurate way of tracking time within the confines of the game, they may have no idea how long they were 'missing'.
