Prompt: Cloud/Sephiroth: AU where Cloud is the Crisis - "Cloud, I've brought you the Black Materia..."
Summary: Sephiroth is just following His desires
A/N: I know. Procrastination girl strikes again, with the help of work and feeling like crap. Sorry that it's late.
Finally. He was finally here. Looking up, he could tell there was someone in the crystal above them, and he fingered the materia that Barret had just given him.
“I can relax.”
It was a murmur, and he felt more than saw the others looking at him. Tifa especially. Looking at her, he just smiled, and then relaxed.
Sephiroth wondered what they thought, seeing Cloud’s features melt and change, becoming his true face. “You were really helpful, Tifa. Your memories and expectations helped me pretend to be -Him-.” A worshipful voice. “Mother had already found a form to touch, and when Hojo changed him, it was easy for her to take him.”
Another glance up, and he smiled. Cloud was up there. It had been so easy to follow his directions after Zack had broken them out. Had just taken a short bit of time, while Zack was hunting for food, to do the switch. Then he had let the man haul him around while Cloud was safe in the lifestream. It was easier to take his memories of Cloud and put them into place.
Cloud needed Sephiroth to do something, though the silver haired man hadn’t known what, but he did need recovery time, time to adapt to having a body and such all over again. So they both decided it was best to let Zack think he was Cloud. Thus the start of the disguise, because after all those years in the lab, Zack was somewhat unstable as well, and he might stab rather than let either of them explain. Especially if he thought Sephiroth had done something to Cloud that was bad.
So Sephiroth had let Zack drag him along, pretending to be a comatose Cloud and settling the man’s memories of Cloud into his mind.
Though he did know part of them were wrong. Cloud had not been there for part of the memories, but he could only do what he could. When he got access to Tifa’s memories, he just continued the trend, plucking thoughts from her mind and adding them to the tower of cards he was building.
It had been a delay, but he had not known what Cloud had wanted before they had finally left Midgar. Destroying Shin-Ra did seem like a rather prefect present, and so he had kept up the disguise as Cloud once he ran into Avalanche and the girl.
Now, though, now he was here, with the prize Cloud wanted.
Hearing a rather horrified sound from Tifa as she stared at him, Sephiroth smirked.
“I did say that you were providing the memories, did I not?”
It had been easy to control the clone to confuse the issue even more. Nobody would have suspected him as Sephiroth if the man was a real and visible threat. Still smirking, rolling his prize in his fingers, Sephiroth lifted himself up, floating upwards, and twisted. Feet landing lightly on the mass surrounding the crystal, he walked close, and pressed his free hand against the surface with a smile.
"Cloud, I've brought you the Black Materia..."
Inside, he was sure the man smiled at him. This was perfect. Cloud, who now echoed so strongly of Mother than he didn’t hear her anywhere else, was pleased.
