Like a Summer Night's Dream, Final Fantasy IX (Zidane/Garnet)
Title: Like a Summer Night's Dream Author/Artist: catdevigri Rating: PG Warnings: Alcohol. Prompt: Zidane/Garnet: scent - summer nights and intoxication Summary: Zidane and Dagger go out for a walk on a summer night. A/N: The main thing here is the picture, but I after I finished it I ended up writing a little piece to compliment it. "Master Vivi, have you seen the princess? ...I haven't seen her anywhere since we all ate dinner," Steiner worried, shaking his hands nervously and making his armor clank.
"I...I think she went out the back door with Zidane," Vivi answered timidly, with his head bowed toward the chessboard.
Freya tsked at the knight as she awaited Vivi's next move. "I understand your feelings toward your liege, Steiner, but Dagger is not a helpless little girl. Certainly she's proved herself to you over the course of your travels since leaving Alexandria."
"B-but, but-" Steiner stammered, momentarily caught between the conflicting urges of going after the princess to protect her from Zidane's lustful advances or leaving her alone to show her that he trusted her judgment. Neither Freya nor Viv was particularly surprised when the bulky man rushed out the back entrance into the night. He wasn't going to change quite yet.

Dagger had never been drunk before. It wasn't ladylike to be drunk. Well, she wasn't that drunk, she assured herself, just a bit flushed and tipsy. The cool night air felt good on her warm face.
Zidane walked along a ledge and scrambled up a trellis to pluck a pink and white blossom from a planter on a windowsill. As he struggled to climb down with the flower in one hand and the half-empty bottle of wine in the other without crushing either, he bumped against an arching branch of a nearby tree. As the gnarled limb scraped against his back, a shower of fuchsia petals was dislodged to float gracefully through the crisp air. Zidane hopped down and held the flower out to his giggling beloved, "For you."
"Oh, thank you," Dagger smelled the flower. Its frivolous sweetness complimented the deep scent of the wine and the soft musk of Zidane's cologne.
A crescent moon winked down at them from the summer sky. Dagger took a few steps through the lightweight blossoms, giddy with the beauty of the moment.
"C'mere you," Zidane laughed, reaching out to put his gloved hand on her shoulder, pulling Dagger close to his side, "Gimme a kiss!"
