Happy Asian Pacific American Heritage Month!

It's May 1st and we're all about the celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander characters/actors that touch fandom in all shapes and sizes and ways. We're celebrating the faces that go unsung the rest of the year, because they deserve their own songs and joy and rapture.

(From the asylum profile) The month of May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and honor those who are Asian and Pacific Islander descended.

While APAHM in real world terms is about celebrating the heritage of Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders, I decided that the term was too narrow to fit the scopes of fandom (especially those characters in the sci-fi/fantasy realm that are played by Asian/Pacific Islander actors or characters who are Asian but aren't American) and have broadened it to include any Asian or Pacific Islander descended character and/or actor. /end

That said, I want to give apahm as much love as it deserves. Last year, I did a picspam and a roundup of fics. This year, I want to do more, much more, but I need help in the form of submissions.

For those want to share your squee about a specific Asian/Pacific Islander character/actor. The outline of the spotlight is completely up to you, and can include icons/fics/vids, or just meta and squee.

I decided, for this year's APAHM, to move it off my personal journal and into an asylum of its very own. I am hoping that this time around I will have more things to roundup that celebration the wonderful diversity that is the Asian/Pacific Islander character/actor population within fandom.

I found this via Angry Asian Man and decided to include it into this roundup because they're "Ten new contemporary novels by Asian Americans aren’t traditional tales set in Asia nor stories about coming to America for the first time". I don't know about you, but I plan to pick up some of these books to read.
