Site Update
Okay,

We have fixed the one major bug that was plaguing the development server. We are nearly ready to push out the new update. The one remaining problem lies in notifications. If that is not critical for everyone I am willing to push this update out the door as is. Though since it has been so long since we have updated, I can't guarantee that the site isn't going to experience some weird errors and possible downtime as I work out any bugs that might show up.

Right now, the update will bring media embedding, some long needed bug fixes, and a newer update page. I am really concerned about getting the bug fixes, including the fix for comment rot, out the door asap.

Please let me know how you all would like to see me proceed. I am okay with doing beta testing and some bug fixing work on the live site if you all are too.

I say go with this how you think is best. You've taken care of us beautifully as is. Why should we worry now?

AND I have to say I'm so excited about media embedding! You have no idea!

comments disappearing seems to be the biggest worry for everyone I've talked to, so the sooner that goes away, the better. We can live with some weirdness in the meantime ^___^

As long as you can roll the site back if the updates screw it up too much I'd say push it out the door and be ready to handle a load of support tickets.

Notifications are more important to me than embedding, but if you promise to get back to it soon, I say take care of comment rot.

personally, the ability to track comments with notifications is the number one thing i miss from my old journaling site. :(

I don't think comment rot has affected me personally, but the next biggest thing for me is notifications. I reeeeealllllyyy wish that worked. Like, I can't spell "really" in any way long enough to convey my wish for it. But I consider bug fixes more "critical" in a literal sense.

I would much prefer to see comment rot taken care of before anything else, myself. I can refresh my friends page manually to see if I have new comments. I can't put back comments that disappear.

Do what you need to do, it's all ok with me.

And, I really mean this, thank you for asking us all about it first. That is just such a nice thing :)

Anything that will make the comment rot stop is A++++. We can wait on other things.

Sorry if this has nothing to do with the update, but- could it be possible to try fix the icons preview for the replies to an entry?

It would be really handy :)

Please go for it! Notifications aren't that important to me and I'm ready to see fixes to some of the bigger issues, like comment rot, tags, and embedded videos. Whatever you decide, thank you for your hard work and for asking us for our input.

media embedding! wheeeeee!
that will be a fun one, i think the still frames are much more tempting for people to click on than my YouTube links. ^_^

Well, I say push it through. Live-beta is kinda part and parcel to the whole thing with a site like this, although I admit I'm very very unhappy about the media embedding. I would think there'd be more use for and higher demand for something like the ability to edit comments rather than something that has a tendency to break friendslists layouts, lag connections, and crash browsers.

But yes, it will be very very very nice to have the comment rot gone. I'm hoping the issue with selecting tags from your tags list when tagging your entries is among the bug-squishers in this update?

Go for it! Testing it on the live site should be helpful to fine tune things. If your team okayed it - I do too. If the site goes down to get things fixed I'll just have more writing done to post for when it comes back.

Wish it was a checkbox poll (with a disclaimer that squeaky and the team have veto power, hehe!)
