Site Update
Okay,

We have fixed the one major bug that was plaguing the development server. We are nearly ready to push out the new update. The one remaining problem lies in notifications. If that is not critical for everyone I am willing to push this update out the door as is. Though since it has been so long since we have updated, I can't guarantee that the site isn't going to experience some weird errors and possible downtime as I work out any bugs that might show up.

Right now, the update will bring media embedding, some long needed bug fixes, and a newer update page. I am really concerned about getting the bug fixes, including the fix for comment rot, out the door asap.

Please let me know how you all would like to see me proceed. I am okay with doing beta testing and some bug fixing work on the live site if you all are too.

While I would love the notification system, I would rather get the bug fixes now than keep waiting if the notification system will cause a major delay. (Although I would like to note that I am already generally happy with IJ and how you run it.)

Add my voice to the group saying go for it. *grin* We've lived this long without notifications; we can manage a little longer.

And seriously, Squeaky, you're really damn cool--you know that, right?

While I would love the notifications to work, like, a LOT, I think getting the comment rot problem fixed is pretty high priority, even though I am not aware of it happening to me.

So, yes, do the update; we'll live with the downtime, and yay updates.

I don't think I've ever experienced comment rot myself, but, hey, I don't get a lot of comments on my journal entries. :op

Anyhow, I'd say go for it. I'd love to see the media embedding go live.

Just so you know (for the bazillionth time) you do a way better job of keeping your users informed of what's going on and what's coming down the pike than most other places.

I would like to see notifications (if that's what I think it is, tracking threads and posts through email?) however I think it's wise for you to do the update now because of the bug fixes. We can always get the notifications later ^_^

I love this site.

I don't mind waiting for notifications. They'd be a nice feature but other things are definitely a priority. As long as the notifs come to my email still, I'm all good.

Will the comments that were lost be resotred, or no?

Whatever you decide on is fine with me. I have enough caffeine stocked in my house to handle any method :P

I'd go ahead and get them out the door. The bug fixes, especially, will make lots and lots of people happy. :-)

My dear, sweet, squeaky. You have my go ahead. You don't know how much this post is made of win for me. And it's not just the update. It's the forewarning about what may happen once the update goes through. Having information like that is priceless.

keep up the fantastic job.

I feel ignorant . . . what is "comment rot"? I've been really looking forward to getting a notification when I make a comment and not just when my comment is replied to, though . . .

I've been getting my comments again lately, so notifications aren't a HUGE deal for me. One thing I would really like to see is being able to select tags on the edit tags page instead of having to manually type them in.

That aside, I'm fine with beta testing the code live. That seems to be the best way to really test out new code, anyway and you've already proven that any major issues tend to be fixed quickly.

It sounds like regular comment notifs will work and just the subscriptions won't yes? Definitely go ahead and fix the bugs! It sounds like it'll be some good things that we fix. And the comment rot is definitely something to get fixed.

Thanks for all your hard work on the site!!

My real self wants to say "do what you think is best" because I can't make decisions, but I think... I agree with most (all?) of the others; go ahead with the update. I'm sure we can deal with down time or errors for a little while. I trust Mr Squeaky :3

I posted about this in ~ideas but I never really heard much from it... Will there be any modifications in the future regarding controlling our "friends of" lists? I just found this to be very useful, for those of us who like to keep things neat and organized. I also think it would cut down on too many journals being registered since it enable users to reuse a journal. Just wondering!

Also, I just wanted to say thank you for all of your hard work and updates. It's great to know what's going on around here and it's so nice to see the money I've donated being put to good use. thank you!!!
