This is a repost of http://asylums.insanejournal.com/announcements/31922.html?mode=reply for the benefit of our newer users

I see that we have a bunch of new users and a lot of people checking us out. I do welcome all of you. I want to point out to you, that although this site is based in the LiveJournal engine, we are not affiliated or associated with LiveJournal or Six Apart in any way. We are an independently run site.

We understand why a lot of you are coming over here, and we do not believe in censorship beyond the letter of the law. We will not remove any content from the site unless we receive an official DMCA take down notice or are contacted by an official law enforcement or other legal agency.

That said, we welcome all of you and if you have any issues, please feel free to visit our support area.
  • Yay for squeaky! XD

I'm honestly glad you're taking a firm stance on this. Its awesome.
  • woah, i'm from lj, i'm not sure i'm comfortable with this honest, direct communication stuff. this is gonna take some getting used to.

thank you for the welcome, not-censorship is pretty neat.
  • Here's a question or two, although maybe they've been answered elsewhere and I'm just not aware of it. I've, uh, been a little occupied. ^^; How equipped are you to deal with the number of refugees that LJ has driven mad and are checking in? With how nice and affordable your accounts are, especially in regards to permanent accounts, do you think will that retard your growth in terms of server support for a very active and boisterous userbase?
    • Until [info]squeaky has the time to properly answer your questions and concerns I'd point you in the direction of this post. The influx he mentions there was basically a tripling of site traffic overnight (which just happened to be at about the same time that LJ decided to suspend your account). Hopefully whatever maintenance [info]squeaky has done since then will be enough to cope with an even greater influx from LJ.
      • Cool, thanks a lot. I just wanted to check before I start seriously pimping and trying to get people over here. ^_^
  • Thank you for making me feel accepted. :)
  • I hadn't been able to explain properly why I was starting to prefer this site to LJ, and now I have a post to link people to! ♥
  • I'm one of the many that has to chime in and say thank you.
Thank you thank you THANK you.
This honesty is such a refreshing thing. I simply don't know what to do with it.
  • As my first officialy post here I just wanted to say thanks for such a lovely, friendly welcome.
  • Thank you.
  • *mozies on in*

    *hugs you*

    *mozies on out*
  • *settles into IJ* I had doubts about whether I'd find a better journal place than LJ. I have doubts no longer.
  • Agreeably this is a bit of fresh air for me. I sure hope you guys can handle the influx. GreatestJournal is another site that may also be experiencing a membership expansion too.

  • we do not believe in censorship beyond the letter of the law. We will not remove any content from the site unless we receive an official DMCA take down notice or are contacted by an official law enforcement or other legal agency.

And that's how it should be.

New and finding my way around :)
  • Bless you. May the blessings of unlimited coffee be upon you.
  • Thanks for the welcome, I know this place is going to get a lot of support from fandom. It's good to be here. :)
  • Thank you so much for the welcome! I imported my journal entries from LJ, and have set up shop. This is beyond awesome. *grins* And look at that! Someone with sense. Durn, I hadn't seen that in so long I wondered if it was still around in customer service. ;)
  • Thank you so much for being so accommodating to fandom. I feel happy to start using my IJ here, and have already backed up my LJs. <3
  • I don't mean to be suspicious, but?

This post sounds incredibly fantastic, but I have some misgivings.
I'm quoting from your FAQ pages:

"Comments, entries, journals and posts not permitted on InsaneJournal include but are not limited to:
-- Material that meets the United States legal definition of "indecent"
-- Child pornography ( whether or not the model is over 18 at the time of posting)
-- Any other material that is a violation of applicable state, federal, or international law

"InsaneJournal generally holds to the standards of "indecency" set forth by the United States Supreme Court decision handed down in the case "Miller vs. California". "

Thess are the same rules that LiveJournal claims they have been following. LJ says the artists that were recently banned were displaying works showing explicit, erotic pictures of underage persons (although very few people agree that the subjects are portrayed to be underage). LiveJournal has also brought up the Miller decision; their claim that the artwork lacked artistic merit was one of the points that brought people here looking for an alternative.

The FAQ also state, however, that "Account suspensions are used by the Abuse team as a last resort. In most cases, the Abuse team only suspends journals when we cannot work with the user to resolve a violation of the Terms of Service." That is a gigantic improvement over the sudden suspensions with no warning or discussion that started this latest outcry against LJ.

"We will not remove any content from the site unless we receive an official DMCA take down notice or are contacted by an official law enforcement or other legal agency" is an awesome statement; implying that IJ itself will not be suspending accounts based on any subjective opinions made by the Abuse Team. I'm only asking how official your statement is. Nothing like that is mentioned anywhere under Abuse in the FAQ.

    • Re: I don't mean to be suspicious, but?

This will be reflected in a future version of our TOS.
  • Thank you

    I love you. I really do. :)
  • I left LJ for a Wordpress installation on my own server a year ago. I deleted all of my LJ accounts earlier this year after being banned from LJ's news community over a comment I made elsewhere on LJ, a comment related to the discovery that they are working on plans to further force advertising, aka new "Sponsored Features," onto their Paid and Permanant users.

Strikethrough and Boldout are icing on the cake for me; I've spent the last two years being harassed by LJ and 6A staff, including but not limited to in my Wordpress blog after I left LJ.

I probably sound like a cynic, but most of you have no idea how disgusting the two companies have become and what lows they are capable of.

Two thumbs up to IJ for welcoming refugees with open arms.
