Your 10pm News Recap with Doris Crockford |
Hortense Clay, the leader of the Society for the Promotion of Muggleborn Welfare, died in what authorities are calling a tragic accident outside her home in London today. Neighbours found her lying at the bottom of the building’s staircase, her neck broken, early this morning. She was only 25 years old. The controversial muggle-rights activist had received a great deal of attention for repeatedly criticizing Minister Lestrange’s politics in interviews, speeches, and pamphlets. It culminated with her arrest last Thursday after she’d attempted to put up posters slandering the Minister outside Diagon Alley’s shops, events which had led the SPMW to disavow her. No information has been released regarding her funeral yet. It is unknown if there will be a public memorial service. Saturday’s gobstones tournament was a success, raising enough galleons to keep the Official Gobstones Club afloat until the end of the year. “The population really gathered around the club and pulled together to save it, even on such short notice. It’s wonderful to see their attachment to the game,” said Gerda Spitznogle, board member. The OGC had lost all its Ministry’s funding in the wake of the recent reshuffling of the Department of Magical Games and Sports. It now plans to hold fundraising tournaments such as the one last weekend on a regular basis. “We’ll also try to find other source of revenue,” assured Mrs. Spitznogle. She did not give any detail as to what form those revenues could take, whether it would be sponsor, merchandising, or other marketing options. “What I can assure you is that we will do everything to keep the club going,” she concluded. Returning from a trip to visit the Heidelberg Harriers’ new stadium in Germany, the Caerphilly Catapults’ owner said that it gave him lots of ideas. “It’s state-of-the-art, with more concession stands, better located W.C., and roomy boxes.” While building a new stadium might be impossible, the team is evaluating ways to modernize and expand its current stadium. Fans at the gift shop were hopeful: “Our stadium is too old and too small; we need to upgrade it, there’s no doubt about it.” |
