WHO: Severus Snape
WHEN: Thursday 14 May 1980, evening
WHERE: Severus’ flat, London
WHAT: Severus finds a strange newspaper clipping pinned to his front door (plot indications)
RATING: G/U
STATUS: Completed
The door slammed loudly behind him as he entered the building where his flat was located, on the first floor. The wind had been terrible today, as his poor hair had learnt on the short walk home. It felt dry and unhealthy to touch as he attempted to repair the parting. It didn't matter that much anyway, the people living in this pig sty of a flat weren't ones for keeping up appearances, that was for sure.
Turning the corner onto the corridor, he could see something pinned to his front door. He rolled his eyes exasperatedly, when would those God-botherers realise that he just was not interested in finding "new life in Jesus Christ"? Honestly, it was as if they had made Severus some kind of target for their warped brainwashing agenda and they just would not give in. However, upon reaching his door, Severus discovered that it wasn't another present from a religious group, it was a newspaper clipping from the Daily Prophet. He frowned, staring at it.
He remained in that very same position for at least two minutes.
YOU KNOW WHO DEAD - WIZARDING WORLD CELEBRATES
Ashwyn Tripplehorn - DP London
LONDON - The wizarding world has much cause to celebrate today as after eleven years of persecution, You Know Who is dead. The dark wizard, who has been behind some of the most disturbing and terrifying attacks in the history of the wizarding world, was killed at the home of Lily and James Potter, by their one year old son, Harry. While both his parents were murdered by You Know Who, young Harry somehow, miraculously, survived the killing curse and is now the only known survivor of it. The child is currently in the care of Hogwarts Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore.
The details of the event are unclear, but it would seem that You Know Who targeted the Potter's home in Godric's Hollow where he first killed Lily and James Potter before turning his wand on Harry. The force of the result killed You Know Who and very nearly collapsed the entire house. The scene this morning was one of shock and awe as clean-up crews tended the site, while onlookers gazed upon the destruction with something resembling reverence.
"It's just... unbelievable," said neighbour Lettie Hargrove, 32. "To think that while I was sitting at home, doing my knitting, an infant was defeating the most terrible... bloody You Know Who!"
The Department of Magical Law Enforcement was called shortly after eight in the evening, after neighbours reported a large explosion. Minister for Magic, Millicent Bagnold, issued a statement this morning, telling press, "James and Lily Potter have made a great sacrifice that cannot be forgotten. You Know Who has torn families apart. He has invaded our homes, murdered our loved ones, and sent his Death Eaters across the countryside in a frenzy of chaos. Today is the dawn of a new, peaceful era. Let Lily and James Potter's deaths not be in vain. Let us all remember Harry Potter... young, innocent, and now orphaned Harry Potter, as The Boy Who Lived."
We will have more on this story as it develops.
