"All right, lovey, we're almost done," Calypso murmured as though Penelope could hear her in her pram. The last time she had looked down at the baby she had been sleeping soundly, something that Calypso couldn't help but feel just a bit envious of. Of the two Bones children, the youngest was easily the healthier of the two and in an effort to keep Edgar sane and not feel guilty for leaving him alone with both of their children during her entire shopping trip Calypso had deemed Penelope well enough for grocery shopping. Quick trip or not, though, Calypso couldn't help but be tempted just slightly at the Three Broomsticks as she walked out of the shoppe she had just been perusing. Surely it wouldn't be terrible to just pop in quickly, just for a butterbeer? After all, the Three Broomsticks wasn't exactly the Hog's Head, so she didn't feel guilty about taking her child in. The students of Hogwarts went there often, after all. That was enough to convince Calypso, so with one quick glance down in the pram again to check on her daughter, she pushed it across the street and into the pub. It was more busy than she had anticipated, but she wasn't sure why she hadn't been expecting it. Tuesday or not, it was the Three Broomsticks and it was prime pub hours. With a quick glance around and the sudden hiccup coming from the pram she was pushing, Calypso quickly decided that this perhaps wasn't the best idea in the world. A butterbeer might have sounded good, but there was something about a screaming child that took away the warmth and goodness of the drink. "... about Edgar Bones..." In the middle of turning around the pram, Calypso's head jerked up at the sound of Edgar's name and her eyebrows raised to the point of nearly disappearing into her hair. She looked around the pub, trying to put a face to the voice but quickly realized that the traffic in and out of the pub on top of the number of patrons was making it impossible. "... Meadowes ... target, too..." "... can't forget Prewett. Fabian Prewett. He's going to..." Calypso swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her ears. She was straining hard to hear, but struggling even more to look nonchalant and as if she wasn't trying to overhear anything at all. The harder she tried to strain her ears, though, the fainter the voices got - until there was a sudden wail from the pram in front of her. "No, Penelope, honey," Calypso cooed, her face flushing just slightly as she steered the pram out of the pub completely. Once outside, she didn't stop pushing the pram until she turned down a nearby street and was able to stop at a bench. She didn't even hesitate before stooping low and picking up Penelope. Swallowing hard once again, Calypso bounced Penelope and her cries started to calm. With her other hand, she quickly shrunk the pram and their shopping so she would be able to secure it in her pocket. She didn't normally like to do that, but this was a special occasion. She needed to get home to see Edgar and she needed to do it now. |
