MINISTER LESTRANGE BEGINS DEPARTMENT RESHUFFLING
Derwent Skirmish - DP London
LONDON - Newly appointed Minister for Magic, Rodolphus Lestrange, began his first official cabinet day by holding a press conference announcing his outline for "rebuilding and strengthening the Ministry" early this morning. Declaring "departmental performance inquiries" to be his initial priority, Minister Lestrange also reaffirmed his dedication to putting an end to the recent bouts of terrorist activities carried out by You Know Who and his supporters.
"I attended meetings with all department heads following my inauguration last week," Lestrange told press. "We have all agreed--particularly Department of Magical Law Enforcement Head, Bartemius Crouch--that putting an end to the blood purity war should be of the utmost importance. Crouch has assured me that the [DMLE] is working tirelessly against the forces of darkness consuming our country. Before Hogwarts students return home for the summer, the wizarding world will be a safe place once more." No additional details were provided.
Lestrange heavily emphasized the importance of his outline for restructuring the Ministry, stating that inquiries will begin with lower level government offices--The Department of Magical Games & Sports, The Department for the Regulation & Control of Magical Creatures--and should be completed in early June, ending with the DMLE.
"We want to ensure that our employees are working for the citizens of wizarding Britain, and at the highest possible standard," Lestrange said. "I feel that there are many unnecessary branches within the Ministry; larger departments will be condensed and many frivolous and ineffective sub-departments will be abolished completely. I hope to remove the excess, tedious channels of bureaucracy, so that the government itself will be able to function more smoothly."
Lestrange also announced that within the coming months, new pieces of legislation regarding marriage, magical creatures and transportation regulations (among others) will be brought forward to the Wizengamot, and that they are intended to aid with the Ministry's reconstruction. New requirements and a new application process will also be introduced for those seeking employment with the Ministry.
