There was a thin blanket of snow coating everything in the garden, a white layer that transformed the view, and as Neville stepped out onto the patio with a warm mug of tea, he let himself stare across the winter wonderland, enjoying the cool breeze on his cheeks. His coat was zipped up to his chin and he had fingerless gloves on so he was quite warm, but the weather was still chilly outside. This year it seemed as though winter was lasting an unusual amount of time, but Neville welcomed it, letting it remind him of the days at Hogwarts, when the Scottish weather brought the cold and snow for weeks around Christmas. Down in London, there was only rain and sometimes that sharp, frosty air that hurt to breathe in. Hardly ever was there more than a day of soft snow.
He was incredibly glad he'd decided to move away six months ago and finally buy his own house. It made him feel a little more grown-up and responsible for himself. Though it got a little lonely sometimes, he didn't live too far away from his Gran and she took it upon herself to stop by randomly sometimes with a word of advice or stern instructions of some sort. Neville considered getting a pet, but found himself fondly thinking of Trevor and how he'd been abominable at looking after him, how the toad had eventually escaped for the last time to the lake at Hogwarts.
Twisting his wrist, he checked his watch for the time and looked out over the fence down the lane. Not sure if Luna would come walking up the path or pop through the Floo, Neville headed back inside, stamping off the excess snow from his boots to heat up the kettle again and ready a cup of tea for Luna when she arrived. No matter which way she came, she surely want some tea to warm her up, he thought. And maybe some biscuits too, he added, grabbing the half-empty biscuit tin from the counter to place on the kitchen table.
