Dec08, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Sokka/Yue, Soft, Like the Wind
Title: Soft, Like the Wind
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
They meet on the same bridge, at the same time, each night. It's cold, but Yue doesn't seen to mind, so Sokka doesn't either. They're both Water Tribe, anyway, even if they're from different poles; they're used to icy weather. Sokka pulls Yue close, and she rests her head on his shoulder. They are each other's warmth.
There are a million things Sokka wants to say to Yue. She's beautiful, smart, and he thinks he's fallen in love with her. (He's never felt this way about anyone before, anyway, and he doesn't know what else to call this but love.) He just stands there, holding her, breathing in her scent.
"Sokka?" Her voice is so soft that he thinks it's just a gust of wind until she repeats his name.
"Yeah?" He says, trying to keep his voice just as soft so as not to break the mood.
"I have something for you." She reaches into her thick, fur-lined coat and pulls out a small box wrapped in silvery paper. "I don't know what's going to happen to us, but I want you to have this," she whispers.
Sokka turns the gift over in his hands. "I haven't got anything for you," he says.
If it were anyone else standing beside him, he'd have a funny, reassuring offhand comment; but the sincerity in Yue's eyes seems to have temporarily knocked the sarcasm from him.
"That's okay." Yue smiles.
Sokka unwraps the gift, and takes out a familiar moon-shaped charm on delicately woven neclace.
"You were wearing this yesterday," he says, voice soft like the wind.
Yue nods. "It means a lot to me, and it would mean a lot if you took it."
Sokka clasps the necklace around his neck and tucks it safely inside his shirt. Yue leans close for a kiss. Her lips feel soft and delicate beneath his, and Sokka's almost afraid to deepen it. Then she pulls away; with his eyes closed, it takes Sokka a moment to realize that it's now wind against his lips, not Yue.
He opens his eyes as she steps away. "Until tomorrow night."
