“Kissing you is better than hot chocolate, but my toes are getting damp from the snow that’s melting down my trouser leg,” Severus murmured against Remus’ lips.
“I’ll remind you later then,” Remus said against Severus’ lips.
A screech sounded and once more Peeves and the Bloody Baron’s Ghostly Hunt tore through a foundation wall, this time leaving behind a slimy residue as Peeves careened from side to side, trying to avoid the grasping hands of the knightly ghosts chasing him.
“Do you think we should stop this?” Remus asked. “I think they’re leaving pieces of him stuck along the castle walls.”
“He’ll be fine. The Bloody Baron has a standing appointment with several dryads in a secluded painting. It’s…” Severus snapped his fingers and the time flashed over their heads. “It’s almost time since midnight is approaching. He’s never stood them up as far as I know.”
Remus laughed. “All right then. Onward to hot chocolate and warm feet.” He tugged Severus forward and they ran toward the great doors, pushing them open like Third Years freshly come from a Hogsmeade Weekend.
The entry hall was quiet, only a few of the sconces lit. The starlight slowly disappeared as the doors ponderously closed behind them. Severus conjured a Blue Bell flame above the palm of his hand and then stopped, gazing raptly at Remus. “Did you know, in this light you have silver in your hair?” he mused.
“That’s kind of you to say.” Remus grabbed a handful of air and then threw his hand up. A fountain of gold sparkles showered the two of them. “Now, there’s silver and gold,” he laughed. Severus smiled.
“Only you would showoff so easily, Lupin.”
“Only for you, Severus.”
The armor creaked in the half-light and the pair turned toward the dungeon stairs. “Time to change those boots and get some hot chocolate laced with good brandy,” Severus said.
Remus threw up another handful of air and a silver and gold fountain of sparkles floated over the suits of armor. As they passed by, the helms saluted them one by one.
“Sharing tidings of joy with the undead, Lupin?”
“Just spreading the Christmas cheer, Severus. Just spreading the cheer,” Remus chuckled.
