Plot:
There's two sides to every city: the one people want to see, and the shady underside that everyone knows exists and no one want to see. London is no different. Underneath the shiney, touristy exterior of London is a shady world of drugs, sex, crime, and alcohol, and underneath even this shady layer exists a third layer run by vampires and patroled by the hunters. It is here in Absalom, Absalom that the game takes place.

The main focus of this game are the vampires of the Venetian Baubles Theatre Company, and the individuals they interact with, from the humans next door, to the vamps who frequent their bar (Captivations), to the poor innocent victims they feed on. And let's not forget the hunters, who find it incapable to see the good in any vamp.

Game Play Rules
1. Be active! We’re not going to lay out rules about how much you have to post or how often, but it isn’t reasonable to just sit back and watch, and it certainly isn’t nice to not give a damn. We reserve the right to make decisions about your activity, but we are nice. We won’t just kick you out without warning!

2. Spare us OOC drama. We will do our best to resolve any problems but if the two parties involved are being unreasonable, we reserve the right to remove either one (or both) from the game. Please don’t make us do this! That would make us sad!

3. Do not God-mod! God-modding is bad. We sometimes do it without thinking, just try not to, and please be compliant about changing something that is blatantly god-modding.

4. As for sex and relationships, anything goes! Hetero, Homo, threesomes, kinky, normal... just make it realistic. The modly ones reserve the right to ask you to change a post if it is too inappropriate. Okay? Okay!

Species Rules

Vampire:

Most of these rules are based on Bram Stoker's Dracula, if you have a problem with them take them up with the master himself. You may have difficulties with that, as he's dead. That said, the following rules apply to ALL types of vampires (different types are discussed below).

All vampires are sensitive to sunlight, but only very weakened vampires can be killed by sunlight. They may experience discomfort due to their heightened senses; however, this does not prevent them from walking during the day.

Vampires are not affected by holy relics or holy ground. In Dracula, Dracula rented an abby for Gods' sake!

Vampires can communicate with wolves and bats. Further, vampires of sufficient age (100 vamp years) can take the form of either a wolf or bat. Also, elder vampires can change into mist.

A vampire must be invited in order to enter a building, except in establishments own by a vampire or open to the public. Vamps are part of the public too!

A vampire cannot cross running water, unless on some type of vessel (i.e. boat) that they have permission to be on.

Vampires must sleep on a coffin in dirt from their homeland. Ok, just kidding about that part. That's taking it a bit far don't you think?

The only way to kill a vampire is to drive a wooden stake through it's heart and chop off it's head. For additional insurance, all limbs should be removed and scattered to the four winds.

All vampires survive through contact with humans and (at the very least) occassional bloodletting. It is up to you whether your vamp experiences blood lust, and it may be something that lessens with age and experience.

Vampires have no reflection. As such, it is unlikely mirrors will show up in their places of residence and business, and as many shiny surfaces as possible will be dulled. Vampires have gotten very good at hiding this fact, so unless a character expressly says "there was no reflection in the surface of..." then a human is unlikely to notice it.

Vamps are not inherently evil. There are good, bad, and neutral vampires, just like humans!

Types of Vampires:

Blood - this is your "traditional" vamp
Sexual (Hecubus/Succubus/Incubus) - these vamps survive by living off the energy transfered during sex.
Psychic - A Psychic vamp can draw energy from its victim without being in physical contact with it. Victims often experience fatigue or a state of euphoria.

Concerning Turning a Human into a Vamp:

In an effort to control charrie's changes, and also to prevent an individual's character from being forced to change, all transformations from human to vamp must be mod approved. Further, a human can be bitten multitudes of times and never change as long as the vampire doing the biting is careful not to take too much blood. After all, a vampire bite can be fatal if an individual looses too much blood. A transformation is only complete if the human drinks the vampire's blood after bloodletting.

Slayer/Hunter:

Slayers/hunters are human! That means they have no special powers and no ability to sense vampires. Expert hunters can predict where vampires might be; they have skills in hunting/tracking, etc, but all skills must be learned.

Also, take into account that there is to be no godmodding! If a vampire mun can figure a way to loose a slayer, then the slayer can't KNOW what the vamp was going to do and plan ahead, unless the trap was already mentioned. Please, if you are playing a hunter/slayer, be careful not to godmod.

Since hunter/slayers are human they are not infallable. All player deaths muct be cleared with the muns. In other words, a vamp can't be slayed unless it has been preapproved by the player.

Application Rules
1. This game has role-plays with ratings up to and including NC-17. Please do not apply if you are under 16. Exceptions may be made if you contact the modly ones prior to applying.

2. The modly ones make all decisions about whether or not your character is appropriate when you apply. We may ask you to change certain things, among them your PB. There are no super characters.

3. Please place the phrase "For lunch, my mom made me Edible Soup - now I have a complex." somewhere in your application. For extra brownie points, be creative and work it into your samples!

4. Don’t bother to apply if you don’t think that you can meet the requirements of the game play as outlined above. We know there are extenuating circumstances and not everything always goes as planned, but it is a bummer to loose a character once you get started. If you must leave (or take a leave of absence) please contact the modly ones so that we can arrange something.

5. There is a current limit of four characters, exceptions to be made with mod permission, for active players.

6. To apply, fill out the application below, and add yourself to the open community
[info]absalom_app. Post a thread with the Application. If you are accepted we will make a reply post letting you know, and after you create your character journal you will receive invites to the closed communities.

The cast of both the Venetian Baubles and the Queen's Regency Players is composed entirely of vampires. The crew is composed of blissfully ignorant humans and an occasional vampire (with exceptions pending mod approval. Hunters are always human. Patrons, audience members, etc. can be human or vampires.

A character may have several roles within Venetian Baubles Theatre Company and Captivations Bar. For example, a female extra could also be bartender at Captivations.
