When they reached the city Damon felt they were lucky to find a high standing highway to use for shelter, away from the water that had most likely flooded the woods and the area surrounding the prison. It didn’t make sense for them to go back, not when there was water everywhere. It wasn’t like the two of them could spend the rest of the day swimming. It wasn’t safe so Damon decided against that idea right away, shaking his head as Stefan checked his phone.
“No, it’s stupid. If we go back down there we might get caught in something or those stupid soldiers could be up in the trees, waiting for us to go back down there and swim around like idiots. It’s too risky and we’re not doing it. We’ll go when the water levels out.” Damon knew that Stefan would argue, that he would mention Caroline and the girls but Damon knew that they were alright. He knew that Caroline, Bonnie and everyone else could manage.
They couldn’t stay where they were but heading to the prison wasn’t possible. Damon eyed a gas station that wasn’t that far away. It stood away from the city itself and was in no way a target of the massive wave that seemed to miss the area entirely.
“Come on, let’s head there and see if maybe our phones will work if we’re outside of this area.” It was a longshot but Damon didn’t know what else to suggest as he waited for Stefan to acknowledge his idea before the two of them were speeding down the highway.
