Who: Stefan & Caroline What: Stefan wants the truth When: Directly after his talk with Katherine Where: The Prison Warnings: Sadness and sap
After Katherine left to go shopping for shoes, Stefan stood in the woods for a moment, shaking his head. He didn’t know what to believe. Not really. Katherine could lie. She could lie with the best of them but mostly, she liked to bend the truth in her favor and he knew that this could have been one of those times. In that moment, he never wanted to talk to Caroline more but he felt like shit for asking her about it. He knew it would eat at him though. He probably could have asked anyone else who had memories and not bothered his wife with it. He didn’t want her thinking about him dying, he didn’t want to bring up those memories for her but Stefan was in the dark about it all and he wanted to know everything.
The walk back to the prison felt like the longest. He didn’t use his vampire speed to get there. He wasn’t in a hurry. He knew of the dangers out in Everett but that seemed to be normal. The raging storms had cleared but he could see the dark clouds rolling in again. It was non-stop. Luckily, he had reached the prison before all hell broke loose.
“Hey you,” he said calmly but there was a small smile on his face as he walked into her cell. Rose wasn’t around so for right now, they had a bit of time to themselves until they didn’t. He went ahead and had a seat on her bed as he usually did. He didn’t even know how to bring this up with her. Part of him was still fighting it, to just try and let it go because whatever life was back home, it just didn’t apply here but here he was, not wanting to be in the dark. He just had to do it.
“We should talk,” he said, looking down at his hands that were clasped together before he turned his head to look at her. She looked a little surprised or worried or maybe a mixture of the two, but his expression didn’t change from the seriousness that was on his face. When she sat down beside him, he reached over for her hand and held onto it, his fingers closing over hers.
“I just got back in from feeding,” he began. “And I ran into Katherine. The subject of dying came up, how she died and how I died and … I asked her how. I don’t know, I just wanted to know. And she gave me an answer but I wanted to hear it from you,” he said. Because he didn’t want to believe Katherine. “I know you probably don’t want to think about this, but I do want to know. I know I said I didn’t - but I do. I need to know what happened.”
