Who: David and Clarke
What: Conversations
When: Bendy times
Where: Octavia's cabin
Warnings: N/A
David wasn't concerned with Octavia's brother although he was concerned with the way his lover was trying to deal with the matter. Bellamy's heart seemed to be twisted by hatred that David thought was aimed at the wrong place. Nobody could have predicted what happened when Octavia was nearly killed. Perhaps David's reasoning for saving her were a little bit selfish but he did it for her. David saved Octavia because he thought that her life meant more than any other life here in Everett.
But Octavia's brother didn't see things that way and David couldn't change his mind. All he hoped for was that one day Bellamy would see things differently. It all would depend on him and David would only support his girlfriend the best way that he could.
O was out today but David was seated on the front porch of her cabin. He found himself staying with her most nights and only went back to the prison if he was needed on a certain matter or if the Vampire Authority needed him. Today was no such day but David's eyes lifted up when a visitor approached.
"If you're looking for Octavia she'll be back by nightfall."
Clarke had hated the way Bellamy acted towards Octavia. The girl was a friend and as much as she loved the elder Blake, she'd put her life on the line for the younger. Had even told Bellamy that. She'd stand in front of his bullet if it meant keeping Octavia safe.
When she'd headed out she'd intended to find Octavia. Intended to talk to her, see how she was doing. Even if, deep down, she knew that all of this was like the world crushing you. She'd of felt the same way if their places were reversed.
When she hears David, she can't help but smile a bit," Then I'll wait. How're you two holding up?"
“I’m fine but she’s been troubled by recent events.” David didn’t think that he had to explain what was going on between Octavia and her brother. Her friends seemed to know at least some of what was going on and David was sure that Bellamy wasn’t being anything but vocal about the whole ordeal.
“She isn’t to blame for any of this. Bellamy only wishes to find someone to blame for what happened to his sister. He’s unfamiliar with this world. He isn’t someone who seems to understand that there was no other way. He’s very stubborn.”
David couldn’t hate him. As much as he wanted to change Bellamy’s heart he couldn’t force it and he didn’t want for Octavia to have to choose between them.
"I know."
She hadn't known what Octavia even was until Bellamy had said something to her. To her? It didn't matter what in the hell Octavia was. Though, at the mention of Bellamy being stubborn, she laughs.
"Trust me, I know just how stubborn the asshole can be."
It didn't stop her from loving him though. Just like she loved Finn. But her and Bellamy had been through so much. More than she'd even care to admit sometimes.
"I don't blame Octavia for this. I'll never do that. And if Bellamy wants to be a dick, he'll have to go through me to get to her."
It's not that Clarke hated Bellamy, but she didn't like that he was taking this all out on Octavia.
"I'll find a way to get through to him. One way or another."
“I don’t think it’s Octavia that he wants.” David didn’t think that Bellamy wanted to hurt his sister but more of her species. There were other vampires out that that Bellamy could take his anger on and that worried David a little. He couldn’t be everywhere at once and even so he didn’t think that Octavia could follow Bell around while he committed crimes against vampires who had nothing to do with this.
“He hates what happened to her but that hate isn’t for her. It’s for me, Clarke. Bellamy hates vampires and maybe in time he will get over what he sees Octavia as but I don’t think he will ever forget what happened to her and who did it.”
Meaning that Bellamy was on a road that he didn’t think anyone could save him from. Vampires were ruthless and they killed without mercy and if Bellamy made the choice to go after them? Well, David couldn’t vow to protect Octavia’s brother against vampires who had every right to defend themselves.
"He made it perfectly clear that his sister should've lived and died as a human."
She's quiet for a moment because there was more to their conversation than that. It didn't mean that she wouldn't try to get him to come around. Clarke had tried to get him to see that Octavia was still his sister. Not just some dead girl.
"He's actually afraid."
Moving over she sits down, didn't matter if it was on the ground. It's not like she couldn't protect herself if something came out after them.
"He considers vampires to be killers. Bellamy is afraid that you nor Octavia will be able to control your bloodlust. That it'll backfire and people will die because of it."
“He’s not wrong. Vampires are killers and have been for centuries. Our kind once saw humankind as cattle. We lived in secret but fed when we had to, took humans as our pets or at least that’s what ancient history of my world taught me. I was never like that. By the time I was born our race was already in hiding due to the humans finding out that we existed. We were hunted down to the ends of the earth.” David remembered having to hide underground with his father and the few left of his vampire coven until Selene came along.
“A vampire saved my life as well. She changed me and gave me new meaning. I thought perhaps I was doing the same for Octavia but Bellamy doesn’t see things that way. He only sees what I turned her into and that isn’t his fault. He should be able to feel however he wants to.”
David wasn’t going to try and change anyone. All he could do was protect himself and hope that Octavia’s brother found meaning in his life and didn’t journey down this destructive path that was going to ultimately get him killed.
"I get that. However, us humans can be killers too."
How many lives had she taken? One of those lives was in the Gated Community. Lived in the same damn spot that she did. Sometimes she wasn't entirely sure how to take it. Her heart broke every time she saw Finn. After all, she'd killed him. There were even times where she wished that he'd lash out. That he'd hate her. It'd be easier, but he didn't. Her ghost of him was there to stay, very much alive.
"I'm not going to change how Bellamy thinks, I know that," she states softly. "It doesn't mean that I won't stand in his way. That I won't protect Octavia from him. I don't care what that does to me because she's family. So is he, but right now? He's only seeing the bad."
David was right, though. Maybe in time the elder Blake would find meaning. Maybe. Clarke wasn't holding her breath on that any time soon. Just the idea that Bell didn't want anything to do with Octavia hurt. She'd never admit it, but it did. They'd all lost so much.
Giving him a bit of a grin, she stands and wipes down her pants," I'm glad that you found new meaning, David. And despite everything, I'm happy that Octavia had you here to protect her. To bring her back, as it were. Even if that means being like you."
"Tell Octavia that I stopped by, and if either of you need anything, don't hesitate to let me know. I'll do what I can to help. Especially in the medical department. Not that I think the two of you, even your friend, Selene, will ever need it."
