The mission was supposed to be simple. There was no reason that they should have run into any trouble. The kitchen needed supplies and Kara had volunteered to take someone to get some. There was no real reason to put together a full team, or for it to be an official raid. It would just be a trip there and back, it wouldn't even take long. Kara had spoken up because she wanted to try and win some of the prison members back. Many of them didn't seem to understand why she couldn't even kill a zombie. She wanted to show she could still help. And that was exactly what she was going to do. She met Serena outside the prison, and explained how the flying would work. It was much faster than taking a vehicle and less dangerous too. A flying girl wasn't going to make the noise a truck would. There was less of a chance of attracting zombies. But even if they did, Kara could use her super breath to blow them away. It wasn't anything she couldn't handle. Once she was sure Serena was ready, she picked the other girl up and rose towards the sky. She was slower than she normally would have been, of course. Traveling at super-speed was fine when she was alone but she didn't want to take any chances with Serena. She still flew quickly, just not as quickly as she might have alone. The abandoned restaurant she'd found earlier wasn't too far, and it wasn't hard for her to spot. But Kara still chose to fly lower than normal, in case they ran into anyone who needed help on the ground. Out of nowhere, a wicked pain shot through her chest and she almost dropped Serena. She managed to hold on, but they started spinning out of control and her ability to fly was no longer working. Using her cape to slow the fall just a bit, Kara flipped over so Serena would land on her when they hit the ground and Kara would take the brunt of the damage. The landing was even worse than Kara anticipated, and she didn't even get much of a chance to see where they were before she just blacked out. Whatever had just hit her had not been anything resembling normal. |
