Karolina was sitting atop a picnic table out near the track field. She had thought about going for a run but what was the point? What calories did she need to burn? What did she need to run away from when she could simply float away from her enemies?
She was so depressed lately that her light had begun to dim. For Karolina this was catastrophic because she was her light. Everything about her went back to it and when it started to dim, so did Karolina herself, as a person, or whatever the hell she was.
Cora had left. It was probably for the best since Karolina had lost interest in her but one day she was just up and vanished and probably never coming back. Karolina didn't make a big deal over it. They had fun for a little while and she would leave the true grief to Cora's siblings who had both always treated Karolina well.
She was angry at Octavia who had asked for her help and against her better judgment, Karolina had agreed. She had actually agreed to knock out King David the fraud and drag him away somewhere. Why? Because Karolina didn't give a flying fuck about David, even if he really were a king. No, she had agreed to help because Octavia had asked. And how had Karolina been repaid? Octavia took off with David and one of his friends and Karolina barely heard from her.
So that left Karolina pretty much entirely alone. All she could do was hope that somehow Tony, Thor, or Bucky could help her figure out who or what she was. That was asking a lot and she knew that. So what was the point? What was the point of any of it?
She realized that she was floating slightly off the top of the picnic table, having turned on her glow without even really meaning to. That was when she noticed she wasn't alone.
